I think I've read here that the UPS Store can serve as your address for returns, but what about for filing your incorporation documents? Does anyone know whether you can use the UPS store for your address on incorporation forms? I hope so, because incorporation docs are public, and I'd rather the public didn't know my home address. I suppose another alternative would be to pay yearly for a registered agent service.
I believe you need to call the city hall, where you filed for your business application, to check it out. It depends on how they define "physical address".
I'm pretty sure you can't (legally), but I can't guarantee that. Like Jon said it would be best to call and ask. As for who you call... whichever government agency handles the business registration in question.
I'm incorporated in TN, and I use the UPS store as my address.
It's not a problem here because the application for the corporation wants the home address of all of the officers anyway, so the "official" address can be anything but a US government p.o. box.
i'll bump this thread for old times sake. I started a similar thread in the business forum. I'd also like to know if a UPS Store address can be used for an LLC.
i'd also like to ask if anyone has used their home address when filling out the article of organization form. when asking for the 'registered office address' the form says you can't use a PO Box....but then it asks for a business mailing address. so would it be acceptable to use your home address as the registered office address and a PO Box as the business mailing address?
wanting a PO box is a two-fold option for me. 1) it's more economical than a UPS Store address and 2) it saves the hassle of people believing I have a physical brick/mortar store. I would make it clear on my website that my business is online-only
just got a response back from the secretary of state business office and they said the 'registered business address' would be the address where you would offer your service. if I put my home address I reckon someone would show up on my doorstep, whereas, if I had a UPS Store mailbox they'd wonder what the hell is going on. i'm at my rope's end here. seems like the secretary of state makes things more difficult than it has to be and virtually impossible for anyone to start a business.
I am in Georgia and for the last nine years my address has been my UPS address. I just renewed online yesterday and that is when I realized that I use the UPS address. Now the registered agent address is my home address. Maybe different requirements for different states. Good thing you got official word from your State.
