Default BlazerPro/Epson4880 Error Code 1001D

Hi All,

We're experiencing an "interesting" error code 1001D with the 4880 in our BlazerPro. It doesn't always happen, but when it occurs it's always at the end of the first pass in a 2-pass print. The printer returns Home and then halts with error 1001D, which is described as a "carriage servo data error". At that point we have to reboot.

The encoder strip is always kept very clean, and I have hit both the encoder sensor and the printhead "home" sensor with blasts of air to clean out any dust, but the error continues most times. Oddly enough, if we set up a 2-pass print but tell the HMI to do only one pass, we usually get around the error by manually hitting the print buttons for the second pass.

My question: what sensor or sensors may be responsible for creating the servo data error? Are there any suggestions about what to look for that I may have missed?

We're not out of production, but having to manually start the second pass is rather annoying.

Thanks!!
Chuck

Thumbs up Re: BlazerPro/Epson4880 Error Code 1001D --- Solved

I know it's not always polite to respond to my own posts, but I think I found the answer to the problem .... "Google is your friend"

I discovered a PDF maintenance manual that Harry at EquipmentZone has very thoughtfully put up on his web site:
This document does discuss error 1001D, and I subsequently found a *lot* of lint hanging off the carriage sensor tab which is well hidden behind the ink tubes and ribbon cables. The lint may have been causing the sensor to read the carriage home position incorrectly. We'll be testing this a bit later today. I've cleaned both the sensor tab and the sensor itself. Hopefully that has fixed it.

My thanks to Harry and the gang for being so helpful.

Chuck

---> A last-minute edit ... problem is fixed, it was the lint hanging off the printhead carriage index tab.
