Default Can I make money printing DTG with white ink

I posted that years ago when I purchased a Brother GT-782 for printing on darks. I am a screen printer and I already had a Brother gt-541 that would only do light colors. I thought printing a dark shirt job or two every day and taking some of the load off the 50 jobs a day in the screen print room would be ideal. BUT With the cost of the ink, the maintenance, the questionable results on some of the jobs and finally the pre treater not spraying correctly.
I gave up on printing white ink.
My gt-782 has printed about 150,000 shirts since, but no white ink. Now it is broke and I need a new machine. I have a brother gt-341 set up for cmyk only. I am thinking of the Epson 2100 but I was going to do cmyk only.
But, I see all the cool designs and I have heard that the ink is so much less, and the maintenance is minimal and it is 10 years after with new technology etc. etc.
I am wondering if I should get back on the horse. Most of my jobs are contract screen print jobs and I am not selling the shirts for $15 each. More like a print for $4.00-$5.00 tops, on a multi-color small run shirt job.
But if I could do a few of the harder little jobs a week. And instead of trying to simplify artwork and reduce colors because we have to burn another couple of screens, we could do better art with more colors and cool designs...…......
There I go again. Am I crazy?
Can I print a full size print on dark for about $2.50 or so and actually make a few bucks or at least not lose too much, in dollars and stress. Or just relax, print whites and light colors with cmyk. Like I have been doing for the last 10 years and make money.

The link I'm about to post is for a YouTube video of Kenyon Ken using his F2100 and showing the screen that lets you know how much the cost was for the print. It should give you an idea of how much it will cost you to do the same.

According to the link Ziggy provided, a 13 x 13 (approximate) graphic on black will cost $4.50 in ink.
And you state you are charging $5 tops.
To be profitable with DTG on dark garments something will need to change. With a $20,000 investment you could certainly up your game and hopefully your "tops' bar.
