Epson GC costing has a massive contingency built in.

We did a print test of a solid white area at 1440x1440 and therefore we can work out the exact amount of ink used based on the dot size 21.4pl and every dot being printed. So we know what is actually printed (based on tech specs) and it came to 0.2752ml, which is what we had in our RIP and used for costing.
In GC it says it was going to use 0.39ml, which is a 33% increase.

I queried Epson Japan on this as I was concerned about the difference, but Epson Japan confirmed we had done our calculations correctly and that GC included maintenance ink consumption which is why there was such a big difference, but they could not give us details of the formula they used.

So I think it can be a bit miss leading looking at the GC figures for a comparison of ink usage.

Best regards

-David

We have found the same thing in our test printings. Interesting that Epson confirmed it for you.

Cheers! And Cheers! Welcome to NeoEpsonFamily. Bravo.
I try and get about 7hrs a night Peter.

Here's a NeoRIP vs Garment Creator print. Neo' on the left.

Bear in mind the GC print has 2 passes of white. I'm surprised to see how much white NeoRIP lays down in one pass. I'd probably like to add a highlight white pass but I don't know how to do that yet. There's also no choke on the base white because I haven't worked that out yet either but I don't see any white hanging out any where.
The texture in the cog and contrast in the hippo is better in NeoRIP due to a better base white, but the green is a better match from GC.
This design also has some black drop shadows in the text that shouldn't be there so it was good to see NeoRIP automatically drop them out. I think the car looks better from NeoRIP as well.

Here some more random NeoRIP prints. These are from flat images, (no layers), and NeoRIP does such a fantastic job at knocking out the black background.

Mark, can't you remove the black background in GC by using an alpha channel?

Those images you mention are just high res' wallpapers I found on the 'net to test NeoRIP's capabilities. They're available free to everyone I can send the files if it helps, PM me.

The prints I post in this thread are a testament to NeoRIPs capabilities. As an artist/screen printer, (zealous DTG convert),. DTG is a breath of fresh air but it takes some time to perfect.

NeoRIP does a great job when customers are going to serve you up unthought artwork. (which seldom happens)

More pics and prints tomorrow... My time!

If you are supplied a Ps file with layers, (background layer being the most important), using the alpha channel function is Ps creates a great white base when using GC.

The 'Chrysler Day' print I posted is a Ps layered file with the background layer turned off, and an alpha channel for the base, printed with GC, compared to a PNG file created from the same Ps image but 'including' the black background and then dropped into NeoRIP and printed.

Edit: Hope that made sense...

I think what they meant was if you started with a flatten image in Photoshop (and a black background in the image).
Double click on the background to make it a layer.
Use select color range menu option and click on the black.
Set Fuzziness to around 100-130 and click OK
Click delete
Save as a PNG or TIF and import this into GC it would give you something more similar to a NeoRIP (or Digital Factory) does automatically.

It does work reasonably well, although a RIP has the advantage of knowing how much black to remove and balances this when generating the White, where GC can give you to much white is some areas where it attempts to blend into the shirt.

Best regards
