Default Kothari RIP - Where did the platen creator go?

We received our F2000 late Friday afternoon including the Kothari RIP software. We were running the Kothari RIP on our DTG Viper prior to getting this machine so we knew the program well. We noted 2 major differences that we would like to be able to figure out... First, with our DTG version of Kothari, we had the ability to modify / create our own platens. This allowed us to put our own guide lines on the platen space as well as create our own platen to use for our custom made platens. We would like to find out if there is a way to do this with the F2000 version. The other difference is that with the DTG version, we had a single platen (e.g. 2 Adult) that contained the platen size information and the ability to right click the platen space and instruct the printer which color profile to use (white, black, color or dark). With the F2000 version, there are unique platens for each color shirt / size and we cannot select the color profile (white, black, color or dark). This creates production delays as we change the color of the shirt we load frequently and need to open a new platen each time.

Hello Dan,

With the current version of the F2000 the Platen Organizer function is currently unavailable. All platen sizes offered by Epson are preset in the RIP software. Supported platens will be offered as needed.

In regards to your concern about production delays due to the inability to right click and select a background color. Utilizing the shortcuts and the improved organization of the platen layouts should lead to a smoother work flow and in fact improve your production.

We are confident that once you are familiar with the process it will become as fluid and efficient as your previous process.

For instruction on how to utilize the shortcuts please contact your distributor.

Does Kothari have any plans to release the Platen Organizer functionality? If not, can we obtain modified or custom platen templates for platens that are needed but not sold by Epson? We have at least 4 platens that we need to make that are not offered currently.

Platen organizer is an option from Kothari on all of their direct to garment products, it is not standard. Your dealer/distributor should be able to order it for you - it is pricey, however.

Thanks Don. I will contact our distributor. I guess we got lucky that it was included with our Viper version.

In most cases the platen organizer is included.

With the Epson version there are certain guidelines that need to be followed to create a platen layout, thus the reason it is unavailable to the public at the moment.

So what is your opinion on Epson2000 vs Viper. Since you own both.
Why you purchase Epson while you are Viper user? This is very odd to me while I am selling many printers.
Cheers! Inks are on me always.

We started dealing with Kothari in 2006. The platen organizer has always been an option for the distributor/manufacturer to add to the package they distribute, not necessarily one that you would pass on to the end-user as an option. I am curious as to why it would be any different to create it for one machine or another.

Any idea why it is so hard for the Epson?

The Epson F2000 is unusual in that it has multiple 0,0 points (4 in fact).

So you must tell the F2000 which platen is used based on the 4 current support options in the firmware, now so long as you based all templates (as we call them) on one of these primary page sizes you can create custom print areas.
But it is important that you base any custom template from an existing page size and not create a new custom page size as this will define the base 0,0 point.

Note: I think 14x16 is the default if you don't send the command.

Not sure if this should make it more difficult for some RIP's, but it can certainly create some confusion for users.

Best regards

-David

We have only been using the F2000 for 1 week so I can only provide an initial impression (we are currently at 600 shirts printed). Like any new printer, we needed to learn the various differences from the Viper we have been using for the past 5 years (loading, color output, treating are the biggest differences). Our initial impression is very positive. The overall quality of the printing, particularly the white ink coverage is better. From a productivity perspective, even though it is 1 shirt at a time versus multiple shirts, the throughput we get on the Epson is higher per hour than we get on the Viper. Since we are using the same basic RIP software I think we are as close to apples to apples as we can get. The other advantage we have experienced (so far) is the ease of maintenance. This is important to us as we have a staff of graphic designers that we have taught how to print shirts, not machine operators that we taught some basic design skills. We have a retail operation and are open 7 days a week so we cannot afford to have any down time. We also do not have the luxury of tweaking each print in the RIP to get optimal results as the majority of the shirts we produce are 1 shirt so we are not running 20 black shirts with the same design (we are running 20 different shirts all with different designs). As we look to expand the number of locations we operate, it is even more important to us to have a printer that does not require a significant aptitude for troubleshooting hardware related issues, which we believe the Epson solves.

Is Kothari Print Pro v1.5. the same as NeoRIP 2000?
We just received our new Epson 2000 from All American and received Kothari Print Pro but invoice shows NeoRIP 2000. I'm curious why no one has mentioned this in the forums before.

It is not same.
NeoFlex rip will only work on NeoFlex
Neo2000 will work only Epson2000.
Please compare print out quality and test white ink saving.
Don't forget to let us know. 4clicks you are printing. No waiting time at all.
Cheers! RIPs are on me always.

I know Neoflex RIP will only work with NeoFlex but my question was, Is Kothari Print Pro v1.5. the same as NeoRIP 2000?
Because the disk I received does not say NeoRIP 2000 it says Kothari Print Pro, but my invoice does say NeoRIP 2000.
