Question Barudan making ugly long looping start tails on back

At the start of embroidering, my Barudan makes a very long tail with the top thread (about 4-5cm) which gets looped up under the ensuing embroidery. This is ok when the design is big, as it ends up being hidden, but with lettering it makes a complete mess: there are lots of little loops sticking out and I have to trim them by hand.

I didn't have this problem on my Brother PR1000 before, so I don't think it's my imagination.
It's been doing it since new, and the reply of the supplier is along the lines of "that's just the way it is".
Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a way to solve it, or do I really just have to live with it? At the moment I feel embarrassed about what I'm producing.
Thank you

Should be a way of changing the tail length and knot type in the machine settings. Can try experimenting with the settings until you find one that works for you. Can also adjust the clamp type and fork settings in there as well.
