We saw both in action at an NBM show. We were impressed with both, but would go with the Viper because of the larger print area. Viper 16" X 25"-45"....HM1C 12" X 21.5"...there's a big difference of items you can print with the two, creating additional ways for you to make money off the Viper machine.

If you can get enough work to justify spending the extra money, then go for it. The larger print area is an added bonus.

I am looking at printing about 40-50 shirts a day, five days a week. and would like to print one offs for my retail store. can they both print on jeans and bags? also what is the difference in the WIMS systems on both the Viper & HM1-C??????

Hi Chris,

It is a tough question, especially with your application. I think that time will prove the Viper to be an overall "better" machine, but the application of one offs and non-standard items is, in my opinion, is better suited for the HM-1 C. The platen system that currenlty comes with the Viper is designed for production more then for one offs, though it will work for one-offs. The WIMS circulation systems are very similar, though the Viper system also incorporates a slow moving paddle in the white ink chamber to further prevent settling, but the HM-1 C system circulates the ink faster. Six of one half-dozen of the other.

Things to consider:
Space - the Viper is twice the size of the HM-1 C
Percentage of business that will be production vs. one-offs - the Viper will out produce the HM-1 C by about 20% on longer runs due to efficiency
Price - the Viper is about 50% more than the HM-1 C
Warranty - Viper 2 years, HM-1 C 1 year

Hope this helps!

Thanks Don, I know I am Set on the DTG Brand, but I can not make up my mind about the Viper or HM1-C. I guess I will have to read more about the two to see what others think. Also if their is anyone in Ohio, Kentucky or West Virginia that has one of these products I would love to come to you shop and see it in action. Thanks again....

Hi Chris, have you checked out any other printers? If so, what ones? I just looked at the DTG brand and want to check out other machines now. What ones should I not waste my time on? I am looking into mimaki now...

It really depends, do you want speed or size? I saw both, I like the HM1, it seems alot faster.

Yea, Now they throw in The New Raptor into the mix. I think I am going to go to the show next month in Cleveland. I wonder what SWF will take the Viper, Raptor, or HM1???

The Viper will be there for sure, most likely the HM1-C. The Raptor (not the name the rest of the DTG world will be using, only Mesa) is still only in prototype form, we only set our prototype up Monday and do not expect to have any quantity of them to sell until late November, early December at the best. Indications are that it will be a nice machine, but there are still some things to tweak and also need to ramp up production. The name it will be sold under torugh most of the world market is K3 (for Kiosk 3). We do not even have firm pricing on the unit yet.

Chris, I have a customer with 2 Vipers on the Ohio-Indiana line, they would be willing to let you see it in operation. PM me if that is an option for you.

I loved how the Viper has a huge platen area...but the HMC-1 did seem faster. I use a lot of small font types too...and the HMC-1 made for a lot clearer font type. I'm actually now looking into dye sublimation. The inkjet thing just isn't doing it for me right now. There's not enough "wow" in the colors and vibrancy. I'm using mainly poly anyways.

The HM1 uses water based inks. To get long lasting outdoor durability you will want to print with solvent based inks.
