It seems to run a lot faster with the U.S. RIP (no names or they'll delete my post). The "360 enhanced" mode is not available on any other RIP and is quite a bit faster than that... but even at 720 that just seems really slow.
Just an observation by an expert who's been driving the 4000/4800/4880 printers since their inception ;-)

My rip pro seems to work fairly fast. I am wondering Fred, do you know if they are still using print pro on the dtg brand machines in Europe? Even the new eclipse?

Hi Bobbie,

Yes they are (for mostly political reasons). Recently, however, quite a few Europeans have been directly requesting and subsequently upgrading to RIP Pro.

the white is going down at 1440, colour at 720.
how would the rip program affect the speed of the printer? as far as i was away any printer has a maximum speed, drivers wont increase that speed.

i can print at 360, but our company has a reputation for doing good work and i don't like letting less than average jobs out the door.

we work on the principle that there 3 types of work, Good work, Fast work and Cheap work. you can pick two to happen at the same time.

Hi guys, Yes the Europeans are still using Print Pro to run all DTG machines including the new Viper. The ONLY reasons we use this software is because of ease of use reliability and the language options.

The mode I'm refering to is "360 Enhanced" not plain 360. It's a special mode that only RIP Pro has. It's faster than 720 but just as saturated. The white, of course, has to go down at 1440 or there simply won't be enough ink. Having said that... there's more to creating the white ink layer than just slopping down lots of ink. The correct ratio depending on the darkness of the color which sits on top of it (in the case of underbase area) is important. Also, some jobs (depending on content) can use 1440x720 white instead of 1440x1440 white. The 1440x720 is, of course, faster.

As far as "ease of use". Well, for those who don't like to print directly from their favorite app (Corel, etc.), version V04 adds print-from also... but more flexible. Check it out: http://www.iproofsystems.com/DTG/RPV04Promo2.wmv

Gareth,

Excellent! You're catching up some RIP Pro has had that ability for a few years now... Too bad you have to rip the job every time because of no "production run" feature. Remember your trip to Tampa?... Didn't your "new platten manager" feature look suspiciously similar to my "step & repeat" feature?

Anyway, the bottom line is that it's a good machine regardless of who's RIP you end up with. Since there's no such thing as "finished" software the friendly competition will continue and in the end the users benefit as both programs improve.

Hey all,

I just got back from the Atlantic City ISS Show where I bought the Viper. It is supposed to deliver in about a month or less. I was glad to here the positive feedback about this machine. I will keep checking back and will also let you guys know of any issue I have with the Viper.

There is. Hold off for a couple of days as I'm making some improvements. Might as well test-drive the latest.
