Default help - black ink running/clumping

Please help me out. I have the kiosk and really love it, however, tonight in the middle of a 120 shirt production run, my black ink started to run/clump. I have tried head cleaning, over and over again.. I ran cleaner thru everything... it cleans it up then about 15 shirts later it starts again.. The tell tale signs is it starts to band. A job that should have taken me 7 hours (2 sided full) has now taken me 14 just to finish the fronts.. Any help would be greatly apprieciated!!

thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,

I'll run a couple of things by you to check, then it's probably best to call tech support (kinda hard to do at 3:00 AM!)

1. Make sure your wiper is clean, with the 2nd generation white ink we get far better prints, but also see buildup faster on the capping station, wiper and printhead
2. Make sure your spit pad on the far side from the home position is not dirty enough to be interfering with the printhead, possibly introducing garbage on to the bottom of the printhead
3. Make sure your capping station is clean
4. If you are getting ink starvation, check your damper and make sure the black ink bottle is at least 1/2 - 2/3 full

Hope this helps!

Don,
Thanks, i flushed my entire system and left it over night with the cleaning solution in. I spent 3 hours this morning completely cleaning the head, surroundings, wiper, capping station, had clear water in the overflow bottle. i re-filled it, after several more head cleanings and trying to get a head alignment done, i am still getting horrible banding. This is after i ran a nozzle check and all nozzles where clear. I am at my wits end. i have only had this machine for about 4 months. the kicker is i have several jobs lined up in the coming weeks..

Okay, couple more questions,

1. Is the banding in one specific color or in all colors?
2. Is the banding more prevalent on one side of the print or the other, or from top to bottom?
3. Confirming, you had a perfect nozzle check prior to this banding?
4. You are printing at 720 x 720 dpi, correct?

Thanks

Matt,

What RIP software are you using?
Also, if you recently installed a new printhead you may need to do a printhead alignment and possibly a head ranking (your distributor can help you with this).

Don,
I am using rip pro v.03. I just got off of the phone with my supplier. they recommended that i take apart the print head and run cleaner thru it and that should take care of items. thanks for all of your help

I just wanted to say that with my hm1 I never print that high dpi. That might be a big problem with dropping to much ink. I would try printing either single pass 1440 x 720 or double pass 720 x 720. You really shouldnt need higher dpi than that. Hope this helps.

Not that this has anything to do with your issue, I think Don can help you with that, but you numbers! You're saying a kiosk can print 120 shirts, full front and back at 2280x1440 in 7 hours? That's 240 prints, at a little better than 34 shirts an hour at THAT resolution...just doesn't seem possible. But I've been wrong before...and I don't know the artwork your printing...but still, those are some pretty great numbers.

My concern is that you are using RIP Pro and printing t-shirts at 2880x1440 - the highest resolution available when you select white cotton as your media is 720x720. You must be using some other media setting which would mean you are getting smaller droplet sizes - which could also add to your potential to band. Please try printing at 720x720 using ehite cotton as your media and see if the banding goes away, if possible do so before flushing everything again.

Hope this helps!
