Make sure the carriage doesn't have dust on the sensors.

Hi Everyone,
I have a Kiosk II for about 16 months now and a few months ago the head of the machine start acting strange,
when I sent an image for print the head move like it is printing but no ink coming out. When I reset the machine sometimes it goes away, another time the machine printed an image nowhere near the original color. So I stop using the machine. I think the main board is some thing to do with, but Coldesi wants a lot of money to repair.I don't have a clue what to do.If any body can help really appreciated.Joe

Did you ever fix this head banging issue? I have an original Kiosk that is doing the exact same thing. I've replaced the encoder strip, ribbon cable, and print head.

Is the encoder strip supposed to touch any part of the carriage as it travels through the rear slot?

Also, how do you clean the carriage sensor that the encoder strip runs through?

Thanks!

Make sure the ribbon cable is securely plugged into the back of the carriage. Also when you changed the encoder strip did you replace the spring? If it's stretched it will cause the same problem.

I'll double check the cable connections, but I'm pretty sure the spring is okay. Do you know if the encoder strip is supposed to travel through without touching the slot or eye? Or is it supposed to slide against the carriage? Also, what's the best way to clean the encoder sensor on the carriage? Qtip and alcohol maybe? Or just canned air?
Thanks!

I also remove the encoder strip to clean it. Use Windex on a lint free cloth to pull it through. Be careful not to stretch the spring. The strip should travel through the slot on the back of the carriage. It should rest against the eye.

The only time I had that happen with my Kiosk, I installed the encoder strip either backwards or upside down, I forget which.
