Question Your Thoughts Please.....

Hi there folks,

After finally taking the plunge about 2 months ago i invested in a Kiosk 3 for my new business.
I had no immediate experience with tshirt printing but my business partner had 2/3 years of printing canvas etc.

We chose the Kiosk 3 due to the WIMS system as to start with the business is a part time- evening and weekend business.

After getting the new machine installed on a thursday we thought we were up and running when on friday morning the Ink chips would not reset so we had to do a manual printhead seat. After speaking to the supplier they said it sounds like you need a new Ink Chip circuit board. After them not turning up on monday due to the circuit board not arriving and also again on the tuesday we sent them a " Are you for real" email we got a prompt response saying they will deliver a brand new machine on wednesday morning.

Anyway......... Wednesday appears and the tech guy is here with the new machine, he sets it up and all seems ok until he cant draw 2 of the colours through the head, after various attempts he calls his boss. His boss then said there is possibly a problem with the batch of inks that they have purchased. With that message the brand new machine (number 2) got completely stripped down and flushed out. The dampers got changed, the print head and capping station all got changed and then the new inks were installed. The new inks being there older range of inks which take 2 mins to cure as opposed to 30 seconds. The tech then had to change all the colour curves and Rip software settings for the new inks.

Eventually we manage to get up and running and we do a few prints on black shirts and all seems to be great. The colours are more vivid and it looks great.

The next day we came onto the Hi res Colour media setting on the rip software.... None of the prints are any good, the colours are flat, the reds are a yellow/orange colour. I have ensured that the colours are true colours.

Not only have i now got a problem with the hi-res colour media setting but it now seems that anything that gets put on top of the white ink fades.

i.e a red heart (such as I Heart NY) comes out a red/orange/yellow colour) Black turns into a navy colour on top of the white ink.

I have checked my White ink and all seems ok so i was wondering if any of you DTG guru's or users have ever had problems similar to mine?

We are going to book a day with the suppliers and get them to print our artwork and see how it turns out. Im abit dubious as on the demo days etc all we printed on was black tshirts so id be interested to see how the Colour media setting turns out on there machine. When the inks got changed the pre-treat also got changed.

Im not sure if i have a white ink problem, im not sure if its the RIP software settings, it may even be the coloured ink problems, Or even the pre-treat?

you really need to spend some time understanding the machine, the process, the maintenance, color profiles and how to print. this is very important with dtg printers and getting consistant prints. get with your vendor even if you have to pay for time to get this done.

imo the day we had of training on the machine and printing was not enough.

You also need to find out which inks they will be supplying you with from now. If they had to flush out the entire system to use an older brand of ink, is that the ink they will be selling you from here on. Or will you be getting the new version when they get a new batch in, which will mean then having to flush out the older brand from your system.
