Here is a great post reply from Eric Deam on another thread within this forum.....

There is no best! Best to you might be different to best for me. Expensive to you might be cheap to me. High quality to you might be subpar quality to me.

You need to define a few things:

Budget
Cost of ownership
Warranty
Speed
Features
Tech Support
Supplies
Print Size
Print Speed
Printer Dimensions
Print Shop
CMYK Only or White Ink
Required Maintenance
Cost of Maintenance
Ease of Use

So...keep searching and doing YOUR homework. Look more closely throughout this forum and YOU may find YOUR answer.

So out of the top 3 brands there are no clear leaders in customer satisfaction. .

The few ive looked at cost between 17k to 29k
i want a fast but the best print quality. .
I did have my eyes on anajet but started seeing alot of bad reviews. .
may i ask which printer do you use an your experience with it

Don't buy a DTG printer until you have 12 shirt orders a day coming in. Every day.

Better to subcontract your orders out now and build your business volume before buying a DTG printer that will die if it isn't used daily.

I tell people to wait on buying DTG printers until they have 300-400 shirts a month in volume coming in.

Take your time, there are several factors in purchasing machine.

Initial cost
Warranty
where its serviced

Cost of operation.. This is the biggest issue, while ink cartridges vs bulk systems is one dilemma, clogs on print heads, self cleaning and more. I purchase the Epson on reviews that it had great resolution, and I found that its better for me to us it then let it sit. If I let it sit it flushes 3 ml of ink every cleaning, specially white and at $300 a cartridge, I started to see a trend that it was wasting more ink then when I was printing, I wish there was a way to turn the clean off, mind you it cleans a lot less when i use it more but its a pain. I also notices that if it doesn't do the cleanings, I made the mistake of shutting it off the cloggs in the white print head very easily.

I wish I would have got a printer that uses the wet capping system

If your volume is there and you can use the machine at least a few days a week the Brother GT3 is a good choice. You must be religious about doing the maintenance and learn from your results. One guys' settings may not work for you, etc. So do your homework, play with it, and I think you will be pleased with its quality. Initially, don't freak out about
wasting ink" doing practice samples; this is where you learn. By all means keep a log as to what kind of shirts printed best for you. But also record what kind of design you printed. Find a reliable pre-treat methane (we use the Lawson) and you will find your way through your own specific puzzle to get where you are confident in your settings.

I two have been researching a dtg printer for over a year now ( I know what you are thinking - get off the pot an just buy one)

I was leaning toward the Brother gt-361 until I found the FreeJet 330TX.

The Epson is by far the most expensive to operate the way I see it, most of the White Ink will go down the tubes. In fact at the NBM Indy all day Epson training they said to figure $1.00 - $1.25 waste for White ink per each for every 200 Shirts and by the way it does not matter if you are printing White or not since it has to flush intermittently during the process. Sure if you print CMYK might not flush White quite as much, but once a month you will be performing a White Line Flush to the tune of about $200.00 worth of White Ink.

Brother is what most commercial shops use and if you can produce the volumes to keep it running then it sure seems to be a work horse. Its the $1200.00 per head cost that has me worried and there are (6) in the gt-361 and (8) in the gt-381. And it also has to have continued line and head flushes and waste a lot of ink doing so. Cost seem a little lower than the Epson, but still a lot of White ink down the toilet.

The FreeJet 330TX, is one of the systems with Bulk ink, so you can buy ink almost anywhere. Their Wet Capping systems allows the head to be stored in the cleaning solutions while the system is out of use (allowing the system to be turned on after 2 - 3 weeks and start printing without wasting ink performing a lot of head flushing and purging. The ink lines are Teflon making them less of a problem since the ink does not actually stick to them (so I was told). According to OmniPrint you can operate one in your garage without the ink problems of other printers in that environment. (Waiting to talk with a couple of owners operating out of their garages to confirm that one).

Unfortunately I missed the FreeJet at the Indy NBM show so I have not seen one print, although I have sent them one of my designs that I printed at the NBM show and so far the Brother gt had the best looking print on the shirt.

Hope this helps, I will post the design and as soon as I receive a shirt back from OmniPrint (with my design printed on 330TX) I will provide an update.

Kyle
