If your using EKPrint Studio, there is an Ink estimate section Tab you can use to enter the cost of the ink your using per ml. and the program will show you an estimated ink cost based on the Print.

I'm just starting my research in this, so maybe you can help me. I can get a 1430 for $270 and a CIS kit from Cobra for $150. Add $50 for wood and hardware and we're up to a bit under $500. Let's call it $500. It's a bit kludgy, though. I'm very impressed with the work and seriously considering giving it a whirl, particularly because there's a local Craigs List ad for a 1430 for $120, knocking that price down to under $400. But it still looks a bit awkward to run a shirt through. So what's a $500 turnkey DTG?

Thanks,
Anthony

The 1430 is a 6 color printer. Where does the white go? Is the color setup the same for dark or light colored shirts, or do you have to change something to do different colors?

Thanks,
Anthony

I was figuring $100 for hardware and wood. $30 for manual. Looking for an RIP to get started.

I went ahead an purchased DIY Manual today and started tear down of a new 1430.

From what I read it is in the RIP configuration

Ah- sorry. I thought you were suggesting that a stock dtg could be purchased for less than the cost of the modification of a 1430. I just re-read your post and understand what you said.

About the white- I understand it would be distributed by the RIP, but how does it go into the ink sequence of the printer? Does it allow a 7th color? If so, what CIS would be needed?

Thanks,
Anthony

You can buy refurbished Epson for half of the stock price.
Or if you're lucky enough to find used printer that works perfectly..

A RIP software allows you to print using only the selected cartridges, so lets say you have 6 Cartridges in your printer:

BLACK,
CYAN,
Light Cyan,
Light Magenta,
Magenta,
Yellow

You will replace LIght Cyan and Light Magenta with white ink and then use the RIP software to print using only those 2 cartridges with white ink on it.

I see, so it's two passes on a dark shirt- one is white only, then the second lays the color on top of that. Second pass is as if it was a four color printer, and the RIP distributes the color, ignoring the two missing colors. Doing a white shirt skips the first pass of white. Correct me if I got anything wrong.
Thanks!

You got it right!
That's exactly how it works

0: Pre-treatment (for dark shirt only.)
1: White base
2: Color base
3: Heat press

All the best!

Thanks, Johnson!
Looking at the Alien bunker setup, using the 1430, do you have recommendations for a CISS?
I've been reading that some inks are better with some printers than others. Any recommendations for ink for the 1430?
Finally, I've been reading other threads that reference the Arduino board and programming it. Is that required for this? Or just for the ink cycle?
Thanks!

All CISS are the same. The only thing that changes is the factory that manufactured it.
On my page: https://goo.gl/2ixhyD
Scroll down to "Continuous inking system" there's a link for the Epson 1430 CISS.

I recommend DuPont Artistri ink.
I like this brand because it's affordable and can print high quality prints.

You do not need Arduino.
