@lazographics -- hey Billy!

3 printers, all of them had channels issues after heavy print days (or during heavy print days). Image Armor ink. On heavy print days we might print 100 identical shirts in a row and #101 will drop a channel.

We've pressure tested cartridges and have found them fail (again, with heavy printing) so we replace those and it's usually good to go, but if the damper itself fails, then there's nothing that unclogs it.

I just unboxed my printer I retired from 2 months ago (2 failed channels), pulled all the dampers and put in refurbished ones and it printed all 8 channels!

I could imagine how frustrating it is. Thats good that you got the 8 channels back. Concern now is how to keep it from happening again so it doesnt interrupt your printing. Do you agitate the white ink often? I was telling people to do it before printing and after during daily maintenance but maybe should be a couple more times throughout the day. Bags and carts.

We agitate ink before starting, including carts, bags, lines and all bottles. We agitate ink during any ink reset (all 8 carts, bags, lines). We also agitate bottles overnight using a little DIY rolling tool.

We lay bags flat at night and massage them before starting up. We also monitor humidity and temperature 24/7/365 -- I even have an alarm go off if it should go out of band when we're gone.

I remove the wiper blades at the end of every day and scrub them down and then let hem soak in solution. They're spotless. We also swap wiper blades with spares every 2-3 hours. Those are also spotless before installing.

My capping station gasket is perfect and my capping station pads are white and clean every morning!

I really do think switching to the DX4/DX7 dampers will help somewhat, but want to test it out side-by-side to see. The Epson P600 damper is too much work to replace, and it's too costly. The CIS ink cartridges fail pretty quickly, too, and those involve tossing 14ml of ink every time! If I lose a channel I want to swap two spare dampers in, CL1, and keep printing. I don't want to waste 2 hours looking for problems.

In our old neoflex, when we lost a channel we swapped dampers and CL1 and kept going. 5-10 minutes of work tops. No major issue.

Sounds like your going above and beyond on maintenance. Shouldn't be any issues there. I do like what jgabby has done here. I attempted the same thing myself when I first got the 3000, but didn't devote to much time on it, and at the time were having even more issues with different style of cartridges. The cartridges being sold with the spectras now are much better but I've had to replace them several times and talked to many customers that had to do the same so they can fail quickly.

Definitely. I buy cartridges every other week just to stock up. I keep the chips of course (those are the expensive part). Overall I have no issue dumping the $3 cartridge and $2 in ink but honestly I hate the carts so so so much.

If I switch to the DX4 bay dampers, I can put the 30ml carts in the ink bay to read the big chips I think. If so, that should mean fewer resets, too. Nothing worse than getting in 'the zone' and then doing the reset dance, although the P600 reset is way way way better than the old R2880 reset dance.

Nice use of a clip!

Alibaba.com has a P600 decoder so you don't need chips anymore, just a one button press for reset all.

@jgabby Hey dude... shame that Dozer shutdown the FB group, there was still some good info on there. :/

Anyway, I'm just about to do the DX4/DX7 conversion (along with the P600 Chip Decoder install that @treefox2118 mentioned)...

It's been a while, I'm curious how the DX7 part of your setup is working out... is it still running strong? Anything to watch out for, etc?

Just trying to decide whether it's really worth installing that mod right now... my machine is already flushed and torn down, so it's not the work... just the reliability, does the DX7 mod still work well?

Thanks for the update man, I've learned a lot from your posts!

Is it worth to install ? I would say if you have no problem change nothing.

For me I stick with this system, as faster maintenance, easy refill, no ink loss when changing dampers... I will never never never never never go back to original system.

Name could be DX6 dampers as well, depending where you order.

Reliability of DX7 dampers, I use same dampers that are on printers

Default Re: R3000 P600 Dampers instead of cartridges?

I have converted the inkbay to dx4 wide filter dampers.
Has been working great!

I did not take the whole inkbay out. I used the body of older carts to hold the chip in place. Takes a little finessing, but definitely worth it.

Will change the printhead dampers to dx7 if the current stock ones start giving me trouble.

How are you guys with DX4 dampers (in the ink bay) connecting to ink bags?

I'm using the kent bags with blue connectors. The ID is smaller.

Thanks

Hi! I'm new to DTG and I've been a lurker of this forum for quite some time, but I want to thank @jgabby for his tutorials and posts!

With the help of this thread, I finally finished my "Epson R3000+UFO".
Here are some photos:

It doesn't show in the pictures but the DX4 dampers are connected to ink bags.
Everything seems to be working fine with the ink distribution, I'm not happy with the printings but that's a problem to be solved on another thread

Your photos are not showing, wouldn't mind seeing those if you get a chance to re upload.

Does converting to DX4/DX7 dampers make it possible to use IA inks? what about the printhead itself, is that still not problematic?
