Default White ink gone after few prints

Hi all,

Got a problem and hope you guys can help.

I got a machine (epson 4880 base) running firebird ink.
everything is still perfect, 100% nozzle check, etc etc.
Replaced white ink filter once a month.
Replaced all dampers, capping station and print head just last year because of workshop relocation
Otherwise the previous print head last very long.

I've been using this sturdy machine for 4-5 years and I love it.

Anyway, I recently got a very small problem.
The white ink is barely come out after 2-3 prints, need to do head cleaning and back to normal.
But it's very annoying and of course waste time and money to do that every 2-3 prints.

It's not ink starvation for sure. I suspect few things:

1. The new workshop has a big window and the biggest wall are west facing, the room heat up in summer...
I got an air conditioner and very small humidifer, most of the time the working temp is around 25-28 C and 40-60% humidity.
Most of the time, I tried to add a bit of distilled water to the cap when it's printing but not help at all.

2. Could it be the white ink "expired" because of the room temperature, etc?
the white ink is probably 3-4 months old.

What do you guys think???

many thanks in advance
Will

I've sent you a private message and you can always feel free to call the number listed on our website.

The ink shouldn't have expired if it was kept in good conditions, but sometimes it can settle sooner with hot weather. This means that you might need to shake daily when you would previously only shake the ink a few times a week.

Many thanks for the help Nick.

i have additional information that hopefully anyone has the answer.

Yesterday, I did a test. I printed just white...it went all the way through the biggest setup I could go (60 cm x 43 cm)....all fine, no ink starvation.
Only got problem after the CMYK printing.

I suspect the white ink just dried up during the CMYK printing.

Any ideas? this is very annoying.

Many thanks guys.

I used to have an Epson based DTG and I had a similar problem. All the tests would be fine but once I started printing, after a few shirts, the white would stop printing. I had to a power clean each time and after the test print would be fine. Then after few shirts, the problem would come back and it would drive me nuts. I was using dupont ink and when I called the manufacturer, they told me I have to replace the head.

I ended up replacing the entire machine.
