Default leaving cafepress, keep store open?

I'm officially going to leave cafepress and go on my own as soon as I finish setting up my store. I've already done one bulk order on my own with a heatpress and it went great.
I have lots of people that link directly to my cafepress site address. Do you think it's worthwhile to keep it open to make those sales or close it because I'm just competing with myself?
I don't think I can empty my cafepress store and point it to my new store. I'm sure cp doesn't allow that. But I could probably leave a few shirts in it and have a message "designs licensed by etc..." that people could click to get to my new place.
Thanks for any response.

u can leave the tee designs up but have no items for sale. and just say this tee design has been relocated or get this design at..... etc. i do that on my cafepress site. i recently opened up my own site and am slowly moving my designs over to it from CP.

relocated section on main page http://www.cafepress.com/brutaltees

relocated section http://www.cafepress.com/brutaltees/1824750

hope that helps.

I would leave it open and consider it as a retail shop selling your gear.

it depends on if wat u r making now is of better quality than cafepress. cos i know i wouldn't want ppl buying lesser quality tees of mine if i was selling better ones myself.

Companys sell under different names all the time with lesser quality goods. You can always call either store a different name. Assuming you have revenue from Cafepress why shut off the capitol stream?

yeah but if u only make say $5 profit on a cp sale as oppossed to a $10 or $15 profit on the other site per sale then ur doing urself outta money leaving the cp one up for sale. don't close the store, just redirect ppl to the new one

I agree with David on this one. I would leave it open (just don't promote it anymore) and just count any sales that come in from the CP shop as "bonus" sales.

If you're making $5 from old links to the shop (or the cp marketplace) and you don't have to lift your heat press or package a shirt, it sounds like a bonus to me.

You could also just put very large notices on the shop that you have a new store open with a larger selection, etc.

I think leaving it open to pick up extra sales and cafepress market sales that I wouldn't have got makes sense. I don't want brand confusion. I could definately see someone wanting to reach me, searching and getting the cp site and then contacting cp or getting confused about where they ordered. I can change the name of the cp site but then anything on the net that already links to it won't work.
My concern with putting a big message to go to my site is cp will just shut it down. Sounds like something against their poilcy. I have some of ther sites on cp that do lower volume that I'm just going to leave there for now and I wouldn't want to lose it all.
For now I'll put a "designs licensed from newsite.com" which people could click to get to the new site.
BrutalTees, I saw what you did. I think they would shut that off if they noticed. Your EMO shirt is really funny, in a dark humor sort of way.

I don't think they would do this. I've had outside links to non-cafepress products for years without any issue.

Rodney,
I recently had to remove all of my links to "other" t shirt sites (t shirt sites that aren't CP sites)...never understood that. so, apparently it is against policy, but i guess they just police some people more than others

What type of links are we talking about here? Affiliate links to competing services? Adsense?

You can't link to anything competing. So if you have a link exchange page on your site you can't link to other site that sell t-shirts and aren't cafepress. Most people do but if they catch it they tell you to stop. Also, I think there are certain CP users that love to report people.

Just thought I'd leave a follow up. I did leave Cafepress and make my own site. It's been up about two weeks now. I left the Cafepress site open to but it mainly just serves for getting sales from the marketplace. All my regular traffic goes to the new site.
No problems leaving the old site open and I still get my marketplace sales
