Default Fake Trademark renewal notice in mail

Yesterday I received a renewal notice for a trademark from the "Patent and Trademark Office" in Washington DC. In big letters it said "Pending Trademark Cancellation by USPTO"

Hmmm, That doesn't seem right.

Under the "IMPORTANT INFORMATION" section I saw a fee of $1650 to renew. Hmm again. That is far more than the cost to register.

Finally, reading further it says "Patent and Trademark Office is a private service company ... that reminds companies when their trademarks are due..."

Here are some reasons this is a scam.
1) They have a name like a government entity
2) They give a renewal date 2 years prior to the real renewal date
3) They take over your TM process, thus holding you hostage as part of the process and can cause you to lose your trademark.
4) All dates noted for the TM are not correct, They are close to the days but precede the actual dates by about 2 years.
5) The USPTO will notify you when your renewal is due

You can check your TM status on the USPTO website and find the renewal periods.

They conveniently supplied a postage paid return envelop that they will soon receive my response.

There are scam everywhere. Never just auto-do anything and if it seems weird, then it is probably a scam.

It's all public info in the TESS database, so these people can harvest potential "marks" from that. Maybe some of the jerks who did BS TMs will get suckered by this ... :-)

It's like those scum that call saying they are "Merchant Services" and pretend they are your credit card processor and ask for updated info when they are really changing your CC processing service.
