Thanks for clearing that up for us.

I guess this means going back to shaking the white ink bags daily. Looks like it's back to square one if you don't want to go through the hassle (and expense) of the "white refilling" process.

After doing a little more research Brother does indeed recommend shaking the white carts EVERY day so I stand by my original statement of 3 weeks will drain two 700ML bags of white ink. Just an FYI. Casual printers I would say this printer is not for you.

Brother YouTube video on the subject https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPnBaxXkA6Q

Geno, with our latest firmware of 2.6 or higher, the maintenance procedures we detailed in our prior post is correct. The video you are referring to has been updated with these steps, https://youtu.be/iBBhUMHsbcI
If you’re located within the US or Canada and still require additional technical assistance, please fill out a support ticket, help.brother-usa.com/app/ask_ipd, or contact your original dealer if outside these areas.

So, after watching both video's the only difference is to agitate the white ink on print days instead of daily. Either way, the only thing that was agitated was me. As a potential DTG Buyer, this is an eye opener as I'm doing my comparisons.

I just ordered a gtx. This is my third dtg printer. All three will be cranking out shirts. If the machine is more reliable than my other printers, I really won’t care about the ink waste. Much more important to me to get 100+ pieces out per day.

The OP says that this printer is not for the casual user. what number of prints is defined as 'casual' please? at the moment im printing about 30-40 a day on the DTG M2 printer. I dearly want rid of this so called printer and the GTX is a natural step up. However im not too happy with the amount of ink being used in down time.

is 30-40 a day a decent figure to alleviate much wastage?

thanks

Default Re: Brother GTX - High White Ink Consumption!

I do not own a Brother DTG machine. I however do know a great deal about them.
40% consumption is certainaly an outlier and compels asking more questions regarding your designs, pretreat and production.

By design, the Brother DTG machine has only 3 inches of tubing not within the white re-circulation system. Even if you purged everyday, this would not account for the 40%.

So, to acheive meaningful commentary, lets begin with they brand/type of shirts you are printingon, your pretreat process including product and machine, graphics composition including size, and your start up process if it varies in any way from Brothers recommendation and finally the programming that is user controlled for the machines maintance cycle. If indeed that 40% of consumption is seen in the waste bottle, and the scheduled/programmmed maintaince is proper, "Atlanta, we have a problem!" is the proper message.

The Brother machines have a lot going for them, but not enough for me to buy one....yet.

We have the same concerns about white ink consumption but sales rep told us that only the maintenance liquid (tank on the left side of the device) is used to wet the capping station. Not the actual ink. Any intel on that?

If your machine sits idle for seven days how much ink should we expect to be wasted?

I've done ink logs in the past and I find I'm wasting between 40% to 46% of my white ink and this is with printing 250 to 350 shirts a week. Not a lot granted but it's not like I'm letting the machine sit for more then a day without use. Unless you own a GTX and have used it for a solid six months plus you have no idea about the amount of ink it wastes. Having spoke to reps on many occasions I can tell you they have no idea how much white ink your machine will waste. Humidity seems to be the only factor you can control that helps lower your consumption.

I have found the new software has brought my ink waste down.

Thanks for the info this was not what I was told to do by my rep. You should include instruction videos with your machines to avoid confusion.

What? You're wasting 40% to 46% of your white ink? How did you measure that?

I've printed ~4500 prints so far on mine and am definitely not wasting anywhere near that amount.

I just went to the GTX owner's website, and they still have the 2.8 version there. Does anyone know why they still have not posted the new 3.0 version?
