Default brother gt3/screen print combination

hello

this is my first post on the forums. i have been a brother gt361 user for almost 2 years now and have been happy with it.

untill i saw a video using a combination of screen printing and dtg(brother 341).

they print a white base underneath and then print cmyk using brother.

here is the link to the video.

It is a good idea if you are printing the same design and size 20+ times.

awesome idea if you need more than 24 pcs to speed up process! We haven't tried yet - but great idea - especially for busy days!

This looks like a difficult registration for someone who has screen printed before, and the custom jigs they've build would be absolutely necessary on the screen printing and DtG platten.

If you haven't screen printed before I would say this is going to be a very sharp learning curve.

If you're a high-output shop looking to simplify full color prints this could be a great way to go. If you're a smaller shop looking to save on ink this probably wouldn't be worth the investment.

This is interesting. You do not gain any speed, but you could do larger runs cheaper if you only had these machines. You could also use this to print on garments that do not do well with the Brother.

I'm curious if the colors bond with the white well or if they can be scratched off.

I am wondering if the white ink that was used was a plastisol ink or a waterbased ink? If waterbased, I would think the bonding with the Brother ink would be good. I would like to learn more about this process. Does anyone have any more info on this?

When I last saw this attempted the biggest problem was that the inks were not colorfast and would wash off easily. Even when using waterbased white underbase, the Brother CMYK didn't stick all that well.

Vastex used to make a screen platen holder for the 14x16 platen just to do this process and transfer the shirt to the DTG printer (GT-541) but again the problem was in the inks not working well together.

As far as I know, the Kornit "Paradigm" aims that specific Conditions. White underbase screenprinted. CMYK printed digitally on Top. Very cool if you do many Jobs like mentioned above. And you will have to must to print it if you buy that machine...

Recently I have seen a lot of different manufactures (screen and digital) now promoting that their machines use the hybrid system for creating the image underbase.

I have seen the M&R digital squeegee and the MHM setup. Can you give specifics on who the others are so I can follow up?

Thanks

I know Texjet and Resolute are using the hybrid systems for the underbase.

What do you mean by hybrid? Does the printer use screenprint and DTG automatically?

Hybrid is combining the screen printing and DTG processes. The underbase is screen printed and the CMYK ink is printed with a DTG process.

This can be done by either the same machine like the ROQ or on separate machines like what Resolute and Polyprint do.

You also have DTG printers that can be added to the screen printing carousel like the Kornit Paradigm.

Pricey, but a great new concept for screen printers. See one here.
