Hallo! I live in the middle of nowhere, in a place called Wendover. The town is 120 miles west from Salt Lake City (SLC), 120 miles East of Elko, Nevada (which also has a WalMart). The problem with living in the middle of nowhere is you have to do a little bit of everything to survive.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Computer Information Systems, however since I graduated in 2002, this got me little work. By circumstance I ended up in the middle of nowhere, and even though I've left a few times, I keep coming back! I work on electronics, computers, and of course make t-shirts, signage, and a few other odds and ends in addition to running a gift shop.

The doohickey!

Well, my mother and I went to Elko to do the Elko County Fair. It turned out to be quite a disaster, we didn't do well in sales, and a lot of our items and equipment took some damage. The fair is designed around the 4H, rodeo, horse races, and etc. If you had a vendor tent selling drinks, you had the product that sold itself. Unfortunately we were selling t-shirts and a few other things. The wind picked up really bad on Sunday and tried to blow our tent away with us in it, so we called it an early event and left.

Before I headed down, I came up with an idea for the "Thingamajigger". Most of the code I wrote for it, could be easily reused for any image, and thus began the creation of the "Doohickey". The Doohickey is a Windows GUI driven application which will let you bring in any image you want (it will resize images too big to a smaller size), and then you can place text whereever you wish. Then with the click of a button, it will generate the PHP codefiles to allow web users to input whatever they wanted. In short, the "Doohickey" allows you to choose any image you want and create your own "Thingamajigger". While at the event I developed most of the code. Once I complete it so that it generates the Thingamajigger exactly how I made it, I will see about releasing it for people to play around with, while adding more features to it in my spare time (maybe even allow web users to upload their own image instead of text for company logos and such).

Anyways, just thought I'd share!

I wish you would have told me that you would be in town, I would have come by!

Did you make the Buckaroo Breakfast? That's one of the best parts! We were supposed to have rain this past weekend, but it never showed up

Sorry to hear about the event being a bust. But at least you got to work on your "whatchamacallit".

P.S. I would try and come up with a more unique name, like the "Logonizer 5000".

Didn't get to attend the breakfast. I mentioned to Gunny that we were going to have a booth, probably better that you didn't make it down there though, as the proper meeting time would've been when our EZ-Up tilted and fell over

I've actually got the doohickey generating proper code, the only thing I have to figure out is how I'm going to rotate text and stuff. A sample I made with it is at:
My thingermajigger

Work that still needs to be done:
Be able to move, delete, and rotate the text objects
Be able to save the project and open it back up for easy editing
Add some simple bounds checking
Add fonts and font sizes
Give it a better name for Robert like the Image Lobotomizer 3000
Add more features!

Wow, Joe, I haven't checked out your blog in the last few months (or anyone else's for that matter!)... and your last 3 entries are doom and gloomers. Sorry to hear, I hope the bad streak has ended, and the weather and machinery has begun to cooperate with your business plan!!!

Most of them have been things breaking and me repairing them. I enjoy repairing things, I have a natural talent for it and I always like the success of taking something broke and making it work again. I've been wanting to make some video tutorials on how to do things but am lacking the equipment, my dad's supposed to have a camcorder that he's going to let me borrow, but I've yet to see it. The blogs around here have really slowed down, which is why I haven't really been posting anything new (even though I've added an EGX350 to our line).
