Default Acts like it's Printing - but no Ink

I have a flexi-s that is currently not printing on any of the channels.

I can send a print job to the printer - and it acts like it's printing - but unfortunately never actually prints anything.

The ink is primed (head cleanings, etc - all drain ink) so I know it's not a problem with the head/dampers/etc.

Ribbon cable connections to the printhead appear solid, the prior owner indicated a motherboard problem but I tried other motherboards from my 4800 parts pool with no luck (none of these other boards were from flexi's but were from t-jet blazer, oem, etc)

If anybody has any ideas for troubleshooting - would be glad to hear them!

could be a fried head or main board.

did you have any inks spills at all?

be carefull with changing these parts.
I have seen a fried head in turn fry a main board, then the head was changed and the fried board killed the new head etc.

Based on that information - I believe a new print head and new board would be in order - the previous owner stated there was an ink spill on the main board that created the problem. To be on the safe side I can look to swap both the *head* and the board based on the information you just stated.

Yeah, if the main board has had ink spilled on it then replace it. If the machine has stood dormant for a while then no doubt the head is gone as well.

I would suggest replacing both at the same time

Good luck

Don't forget to replace the head cables as well. Generally when one or the other (head/mainboard) gets fried, the ribbon cable does as well.

re: the head cables - I suppose running a meter across both ends and looking for == resistance would validate whether or not there was a cable problem?

I guess by doing a continuity check on the ribbon cables you could determine if it is dead.

To be honest, the ribbon cables are cheap, I probably would not skip on this component.

the ends of the cable can have lifted off, they can be corroded etc, in turn this could damage a new head or main board.

You should put in a new print head, ribbon cables, and main board. You would need a new print head anyway. And as Don pointed out, if there is anything wrong with the ribbon cables you could end up blowing both the print head and main boards so putting in new ribbon cables is cheap insurance to avoid that happening. I would also suggest replacing the dampers.

When we encounter this issue, it's usually the mainboard fuse.

Thanks to EquipmentZone, they were able to fix the mainboard so we did not have to replace it.

We were running DTG Kiosk II machines.

I should note re: mainboard repair - Renee over @ Belquette was able to repair a few boards I had with the blown SMD fuse.

If you are having this problem with a Flexi, I would definitely recommend their repair - worked like a charm on all 3 of my boards!

Where did you get your replacement parts? Are you getting a good Nozzle Check?

Did you put in a NEW MB and if so, did you write back to it using a NVRam file?
