Recent starter close to Geelong and doing T shirts, stickers and other goods. I see Tasmania and NT are under-represented (in fact zero) on our poll - could be a gap in the market there?

Hi, I'm from the Sunshine Coast and still trying to figure out if I should try dye sublimation. I am inspired by everything I read here, but have never really printed. I used to be quite artistic, and now that I can't get a job (due to age), I am dreaming about this! Can anyone tell me about how they started out and if they have become successful?

Hi Judy, my thoughts are that if we are inspired to pursue a business idea, we should go for it with all our energy. That way we can have no regrets if it doesn't work out - life is too short to let opportunities roll past! I have chosen dye sublimation as one idea which needs relatively low investment, but I don't expect it to provide a full income for me at this stage, so I am also doing stickers and vinyl T Shirts as other ways to build my business. Despite the recession I think the main factor in whether I succeed will be how well I market the business, which gives me some confidence as it means I am in control! Good luck if you decide to go ahead.

Many Thanks. Will have to procrastinate further so that I can see the vision more clearly. You have given me great encouragement along the lines of how I think!

Hey ed we started our small business in the opposite direction to you with manual press screen printing, viynal and transfer paper heat press. Now we want to venture into embroidery but are finding it hard to source equipment here in nz. Just wondering where in aussie you sourced your equipment from and have you got any recommendations for us in terms of types of embroidery equipment etc, because we dont want to get anything too big and our budget is a little restricted aswell. We just want something small and basic enough to start with. cheers. jayjays prints

Been in the dye sub game for 7 years mainly T-shirts and Coffee Mugs, just branched out into 100% cotton T's, but the coffee Mugs have gone mad with sales this time of the year

Thumbs up Re: [AUS & NZ] Where are you located?

Embroidery can be fun and at times a little frustrating, like everything else. I am having troubles with the colours on my mugs...(far too red) anyway I don't think you could go wrong buying a Brother PR.... the latest model is a PR650. I have the PR600II. Not much change in the new model except it has a bigger screen. Over here these machines cost about $13k but older machine would be certainty worth looking at as these machines are built like tanks and should last many years. Maintenance is easy and can be performed by yourself. The PR forum is fantastic and extremely helpful. A lot of embroiders prefer to buy several PR's than 1 expensive multi head machine.
The PR will handle almost everything you can throw at it but if I find myself with an order of 100 or so, it would be cheaper to outsource (some poor sweat shop in Asia)
And if things go belly-up, it is not hard to sell your P.R.
It would even look good in the sewing room of any embroidery enthusiast.
Do I like my baby.... YES. She has been good to me and earnt me a few bucks along the way.

If you wish to know more email me at [email protected] or skype me sometime at [email protected] (we own a B&B as well)
cheers Ed
