I have no experience in garments manufacturing. We are opening a weight loss program in a fitness center, and we are looking for Polo shirts for the program members.
Our target clients will need large size shirts 4XL and larger.
I have contacted several manufacturers in China, and they proposed 100% cotton, pique fabric.
Now I am lost and need help on the following two issues:
Fabric weight: based on conversations with some potential clients, I understand that a thick fabric is not preferred, and a thin one might look cheap. I do not know what fabric weight will heat the target. Manufacturers suggested 220gsm as a good quality fabric.
Shirts sizes: I understand that the 4XL, 5XL, ….. do not represent any standard sizes, and I might get different sizes from different manufacturers (for the same size that I order). I have found several size charts on the web, but I do not know which one I should use.
Can anyone help with these issues?
Also, recommendations on fabrics, trustable suppliers, and anymore information will be appreciated.

BigTopTees.com specializes in larger size polos and t-shirts.
You may want to give them a call or email to see if they can meet your needs.

That depends on where you are. Some people feel a thicker fabric = higher quality garment. Some people don't want a thicker fabric because it may be hotter in high temperature climates.

You may want to check some of the sizing charts at SanMar or other places that carry larger sizes. That may give you a better idea of a standard (at least in the US)
Regarding the fabric weight, if I have a shirt, is there a way to know what fabric weight is used for this shirt? or maybe I should open a new thread on this?
