hey guys, in a few months i'll be heading to china to visit some relatives. Surprisingly, I found out today that they own a garment/textiles factory there as well. I'm excited to drop by and see how it goes.
Has anyone ever gone to a foreign country to check up on a manufacturer, any pointers?
I'll be curious to see how it goes. My sister and I have just started an online business selling my design with her shop doing the embroidering. I will also be going to Beijing after the Olympics to visit a friend. I'm hoping our business has grown enough by then to consider having items made over there.

I haven't gone myself, but I have a friend who is in China right now and I'm working with him and talking to a few garment factories to try to arrange a visit so he can see their conditions.
He's already visited a few different factories (not apparel related) and he said you would be surprised how professional and efficient they are. Nothing like the "horror stories" we hear over hear. Very clean, etc.
It's probably just like anything else. There are good people and there are bad people. There are probably good factories in the US and bad factories in the US. Same goes for anywhere else.
We produce the tshirts for our brand here in China - we're a local tshirt brand run out of Beijing (but we're from England and Canada). We've had ups and downs with production but wouldn't work unless we were here on the ground. Conditions are excellent in the factory we use. But like people have said - there are good factories, and bad factories. You need to see them for yourself.
