Default Problems with Gildan colored shirts? screen printed white ink coming off

Has anyone else had problems with white ink coming off of colored Gildan shirts? My printer had to reprint an order twice because when he used a large coverage of white on a colored Gildan shirt the ink started to peel after one wash. We did tests on other brands, varied flash/no flash, single/double coat the white, and Gildan was the only brand that this happened to. We use Union Inks, but tried other brands as well, and all white plastisol inks washed off. I don't know if it is a dye used by Gildan in their color shirts that is causing the plastisol to act like this or what. Just wondering if anyone else was experiencing this.

that is weird, is it a full moon ?

sometimes, actually more often then i would like to admit I'm so sure i'm doing it right, only to find out later i was not.

Never had problems printing plastisol transfers on Gildans here in Canada.

May be some others will help out here.

No probelms here with printing on Gildan colors.

Is it peeling or cracking.

It's peeling off. We ran the tests on brands under all different scenarios and Gildan was the only brand we had a problem with. We used Hanes, FOL, Delta, Jerzees and put the same ink on all, ran them through the dryer, washed them all together, and Gildan was only one to mess up. Really weird.

really weird. We use Gildan T's every day with no issues like this.
How are the shirts being cured and were the Gildan the same colors as the others tested?

We tested several of the same colors of each brand. I'm not sure of the exact temp on the dryer, but I think close to 300 degrees @ roughly 30 seconds on a conveyor dryer.

Update: It wasn't the Gildan brand shirts, it was the ink. We were using Triangle 1701 Phoenix white. It washed off all of the shirts after a few washes. I went to their website and that ink is made for polyester/cotton blend shirts. I think that is where our problem was. We were printing on 100%

I don't know about the poly blend ink being your problem either, I use Rutland Supreme White on everything and it's a poly cotton blend ink as well but, I've never had the problem you're having...maybe there is still more to it.

I tried using a gallon of Triangle white also and had the same problem. So I went back to Willflex and have not encountered it again. This happened to me on two orders and could not afford to continue replacing orders. Not going to totally blame the triangle ink, but it was the only variable I changed and have not encountered the problem again. (Had the same problem with their yellow gold ink also.)

Well Triangle ink's site says that it is for poly and 50/50 so my guess is that if you or the customer intends on washing the shirt not to use it on 100% cotton, I'm glad I read this thread before making a big mistake, just switched to 50/50 so hopefully no problem

Well since no one got back to me I decided to do a wash test, I screened, dryed, screened again- like you would for any dark garment- then I washed and dried twice. Everything looks good

Gather yor information more accurately.. "maybe 300 degrees" plastisol has to hit 330 to cure. Buy a $50 heat sensor.
