Default International Purchases - should I pay for the wire fees?

Hello,

I hope I'm not asking a question that has already been answered but when I searched the threads I did not see an answer. Anyway, I'm just about to place an order with a manufacturer in China. I have checked several references and they has gotten nothing but high recommendations. My question is that I have to wire money with no guarantee. Also, the company is asking that I pay my wire fees as well as the fee that their bank is charging them. Which would be a total of $65.00. I know that's not a lot but I guess it's the principle.

I can't beat the price he's charging me for baby t-shirts and baby bibs. Anyone with experience buying overseas?

Sheila

That's one of the common problems in dealing with international manufacturers (at least from what I've read here).

You can always negotiate

If you don't want to pay their bank fees, then tell them that you won't pay the bank fees. Just be prepared to go somewhere else if they call your bluff.

I'm sure there must be something lost in the translation. The usual procedure is that the seller already absorbs his personal bank charges through his selling price, while the buyer does the same on his side of his transaction.

We do a substantial amount of importing from China. The companies we deal with do not charge us for the bank transfer fee, although they may include it in the price. Chances are your supplier will probably not negotiate the fee but it's worth asking. Are you dealing with an agent in China who is overseeing the purchase?

Did the references you checked mention anything about the financial end of their transaction?
