What has been your biggest challenge when buying blank t-shirts for your apparel line
Hi there,
I've been working on my t'shirt line for a while. Getting my designs approved...figuring out what blanks were best etc. My partner who is in charge of creative design only wants premium shirts and is very very picky about the style I have done hours and hours of searching. we like alternative apparel, but they don't offer the styles in our colors. we like american apparels colors, but the style shirt is not right. we found PFD blanks but the style is not right. Seems like we can't win. Then i thought i had it all figured out because both american and alternative would do custom colors, but low and behold their minimums were way to high for my beginning business.
I was just wondering what if anything was everyone's biggest challenge, if any when buying your blanks? am i crazy, or do you all go though something similar so your tees are just how you envisioned them? looking forward to hearing from you.

Im just starting out too, so far with only 1 printed design. More to come next week. Ive gone though about 6 or 7 blank brands so far and found one I really like but the tags are sewn into the shirt and takes hours to remove them so I can press my own in. I know how I want my shirts to look and feel but it just takes alot of searching until you find that exact style you want. Im still looking and Im going to try a new supplier for my next order. Ive been looking for a high oz. tee with tear away labels. You'll end up finding what fits your line the best. Maybe explain what your looking for in your tees and someone here may know a brand that is really close to what your trying to find.

If you are looking for girls stuff, Bella makes some really nice styles, you might want to check them out hope you find something you like. If you are looking for the more trendy style girl shirts like longer in length and tighter fit you might find something through their styles.

Our problems with blanks are exactly the same as yours, with the addition of sizing issues. The answer to the problems for you may be much the same as ours were. Be flexible. You may not find the perfect shirt for every individual criteria you are looking for nut there will probably be something fairly close. Deal with as close as you can get untill you build up you purchasing power a little, then you can get whatever you like.

Thank you so much for your responses. I'm glad to know i am not alone.
I wish I could settle and compromise but the woman's whose name i am using for the line will not have it that way. We love alternatives pima cotton tee, but it only comes in 4 colors (which are nowhere near the colors we want). I will continue doing my research, but most likely, I will be producing these on my own. (i hope!
Re: What has been your biggest challenge when buying blank t-shirts for your apparel line
For me so far it's been price and quality. I went with a local supplier and found that the price was good $3 a t-shirt with tons of colors but the shirts feel like sandpaper and the hooys I bought fit weird. I was really expecting this to be the easy part but apparently not!
I got FTL heavy cotton 9 oz shirts and they are terrible.
for hoodys i got king fashion 15 oz and they fit terrible and are not as thick as I would like.
My problem now is that I can't return them and I don't have the money to get new stock.
Re: What has been your biggest challenge when buying blank t-shirts for your apparel line
See for me it's alittle different. My target demographic will pay more for the tees so therefore I can afford to buy a more expensive one, but the details of the styles are what's holding me back.

We use Comfort Colors and love them. They are great quality and you can get pigment died or direct reflective colors. They are a little pricy but hold up extremely well and do not shrink due to the dieing process. You can relabel them is you desire. You can look at them at www.thedyehouse.com
If you need a contact there let me know and I will help you out.

Sizing, Quality, Colours
I don't care for the price I have to pay but the shirts need to not shrink and have a retail quality with a great colour range. I have finally found what seem to be retail quality t-shirts with the colour range I am looking for and the company also re-labels... time to get some samples, make sure they will be perfect for printing on and wash them and wear them and make sure they hold their shape. If this pays off then I have finally got the t-shirt I am looking for and the effort will shift away from that 'hurdle' as such. If you are interested in what t-shirts I am using, then head to the 'Australian T-hirt Supplier' thread.
