I'm just wondering if any Canadians here buy their wholesale shirts from somewhere outside of Canada? Do you find the extra shipping/duty costs to be significant on a per garment basis? It just seems that so many of the great companies are outside of the frozen north.

Thanks!
all the mega-brands for blanks have distributors in Canada.
some smaller brands do too.
but yes, there is a wider variaty in the USA.
...and yes, i think the freight and brookerage fees will add up $$ to the unit price when importing from the USA.

Do you think the retail price would sky rocket? Or would it just be a couple of dollars? I know there are obviously other factors to consider... just wondering if it's even worth investigating as a start up.
I must say, finding the right blank t-shirt has got to me the most frustrating thing I've ever done lol.
it really depends on what your clients and "you" are looking for.
can't go wrong with the mega-brands.
with small brands you may run into difficulties like, they are sold out, they charge more etc.... but some are unique and worth a try.
good luck.
I like a lot of the styles that I see from alternative apparel. I contacted them, and they said they do not have any Canadian distributors. If it comes down to it, I would rather have to up my retail price a few dollars, if that meant me getting what I am looking for.
I just have no idea of what mass shipping and duty looks like. Would it turn a $30-$40 shirt into a $50-$60?
Judging by the lack of replies I'm guessing that there either aren't many Canadians here or most Canadians have learned that bringing shirts in from the US aren't the greatest idea.

well, not trying to discourage you on what you like but buying and conducting business with your heart and over looking the competitive factor may put you out some.

i guess if you are a boutique and you have the clientele that buys boutique priced type goods, $ 100 for a shirt that comes with a name/signature attached to it is not out of this world.

cotton weighs some, so freight would cost more than air bubles.
I too like what i see from Alternative Apparel's Catalog. I believe Rodney and Lewis plus a few others have purchase Alternative stuff and they like it. Not me.
Perhaps at the next trade show they can work a deal with an existing distributor like Gaults or someone else and that would solve your problem.
I dont know if Alternative has upgraded their payment types yet, but these days it would be a good idea to take paypal at least on a global market. Not everyone wants to use their credit card...like the more volume type buyers etc.... sorry, its only you and i so i turn long winded on one on one conversations.
