Has anyone already done a comparison of Port Authority 6.1 ounce t's vs. top brands like gildan and Hanes??? I was just noticing that they're on sale for about $0.50 to $1.00 cheaper for colors and was wondering if they're basically the same shirt.

Tim, I haven't tried these yet, but I wonder how they would hold up. I'm going to be ordering shirts shortly and I may try these with my next order. I'll let you know how they hold up.
What site are you getting them from? I'm going to check blankshirts.com really quick to see if they have them.
I have been told so by sales reps, but one can put the shirts side by side and compare the sewing, fabric and size.
I have had several customers switch from Hanes to the Port shirt, I just grin and tell them that it is a wise choice.

Hmmm...I'm not sure I always trust what a sales rep says But it is interesting info. I'd love to read some confirmation on it if anybody has a link.
Remember there is Port Authority and Port and Company. PC61 is Port and Company. I think they are Gildan 2000

I keep the PC61 and Gildan 2000 & 8000 shirts in stock. They are not the same shirt, hem and neck stitching is slightly different, but they could easily be made on the same machine.
The PC61 from SanMar has one advantage. It is available is sizes up to 6XL. This is a big plus for some orders. Most distributors only carry the Gildan or other brands up to 3 or 4 XL.
On the other hand, the PC61 is only available in 100% cotton. Gildan has both cotton and 50/50 blends available.
If you want to tie up $200 or more in tees, you can get free freight. You won't get free freight and a sale price. I generally find that the free freight is a better deal than a sale price, unless you are buying a hugh quantity.
All of the brands, including Gildan have periodic sales through their distributors. Set up an account with some of the distributors and you get sale notifications by e-mail.
I have been told by both Hanes Reps and Sanmar Reps that the PC61 is made by Hanes. I always prefer PC61 over gildan... but that is just my personal preference. As far as Sanmar as a company, they are one of the best I have dealt with since being in business.
