Re: what shirts to go with... american apparel vs alternative apparel: opinions?
I have to go with american apparel hands down.
They have a huge following as a brand for retail, as the shirts cost $15 for the basic plain BLANK shirt, people still buy them.
The color choices are amazing, and getting their clothing wholesale is so easy. 100% cotton, USA made, and fashionable? you can't beat that.
sorry, i have to slam hanes, jerzees, all those brands. AA has it down to a science.
you can make an AA shirt for a total cost that is less than their retail shirt cost, so customers will have NO problem paying $18.99-21.99 for a designed american apparel shirt, since they're $15 in the store.
they also do that old-school boys underwear, hooded-zipper fleece sweatshirts, track jackets, all available for wholesale, all more than reasonable.

We have tried both American and Alternative.
American Apparel is a bit thicker, and run smaller. Alternative Apparel is softer, and truer to size. I would prefer to buy Alternative Apparel, but would really like US made products.

i guess we're all in it for different reasons. i live in the heart of portland, oregon.. and being pretty young, i'm going for fashion. AA is the thing here, and to be frank, there arent any alternative apparel stores around here.
when I sell AA, it's already been sold by the brand..
thats why sites like bustedtees.com, snorgtees.com, threadless.com.. those types of shirt sites do quite well because their prices are average $17.99 per shirt, when the AA shirt retail is $15.. its like american apparel sets them up and all we do is knock them down!

looks a little cheaper in price but, i wouldnt go as far to compare it with AA.
i guess im the only one who sees AA as a name brand, not just a 'shirt to print on'.
does alstyle sell shirts to the public with such fashionable recognition?

I think AlStyle would be OK but it would depend on the style and look you are going for.

try any 'bang on' outlet--there's one near queen/spadina--or try online at www.trendyblanks.ca. they're a vancouver based company but have warehouses in toronto area. very reasonably priced too...
