Many people choose American Apparel because they are manufactured in the USA. Pacific Sports outsources overseas so I don't think it is quite an "alternative".

I think most people choose them because they are conviently located in the U.S. and for their quality. But on the pacific sports site they have USA softspun and then ringspun which I assume is imported.

But when comparing those two with American Apparel, It looks like the 30/1 ringspun from PS would be the better choice and not just because of price. It is the only one out of the three (I compared to AA s/s knit jersey) that is both combed cotton and enzymed wash.

AA is combed and so is PS USA softspun which is great for the added softness, but then you add in the enzyme wash which the PS ringspun has on top of being combed, it is definitely better quality material IMHO. But that is without actually seeing a sample of the actual product.

I don't have a need for wholesale shirts, so maybe when someone orders samples they can post the info here for others. But I would defintely get a sample of the enzyme wash and compare with the others.

Hey Kris, can you explain a bit about what the differences are between 30/1, 18/1, 20/1?

Does that have to do with the thickness of the fabric, the softness of the fabric or what? That's something I've never understood although I see many t-shirt manufacturers highlighting the fact that they have 30/1 singles.

Any chance you could break it down for me in simple terms?

Hey Rodney,

These numbers 20/1, 16/1, 30/1 refers to the yarn count. Like how much yarn is packed into an area. Length per unit mass. So, the higher the number the thinner and softer it would be. Lower numbers would be thicker or even stiffer.

And then there is GSM (grams per square meter) that you should also take into consideration. This has to do with the fabric weight. For example, you probably want at least a 180 gsm. It is a light weight tee, but popular with vintage styles. Maybe a little heavier for white shirts.

I feel like I may have just made things more confusing.

I think I will sit down and use your handy article section on different tyes of knits and such for t-shirts. I think this may help people get a better idea of what they are buying.

Thanks Kris, this helps some, but any expansion you may want to provide in the articles section would be appreciated of course

I think the "juniors" section in the catalogue refers to women...i think I know other manufacturers refer to the women;s as "juniors"...smaller fitted cuts as opposed "ladies" which seem to be fuller cuts.

I just talked to Pacific and they said their stuff is spun, cut, dyed in SC, USA. Stitching done in Mexico mainly then shipped back to be finished. Basically the same as every other US manufacturer. They seem like a great bunch of guys that are just trying new markets. They say for 10 years they only had the ability to fill orders for the clients they had contracts with and expanded accordingly, but now can handle more volume. I just ordered some blanks and will let everyone know what I think. At the price even if they turned out to be useless they'd make cheap soft dishrags. And according to them The "ESW" is silicone washed...the plain PM30 is enzyme washed. All preference I guess - both are lightweight, silicone washed is smoother. And the tags come right out...bonus.

I got my samples from Pacific and they are pretty nice. The "regular" shirts are very similar to American Apparel, but the ESW silicone washed shirt is VERY nice. Super soft feel that makes it stand out.

There were a few problems with my sample order because of inventory issues, but they went out of their way to sort it out.

They also have nice toddler t-shirts.

How is the fit?

Is it a standard fit or a slimmer fit?

Personally, I like American Apparel because I'm already skinny so if I wear a regular cut shirt, it would look baggy and make me seem skinnier. However, this isn't the case for most people.

It has an incredibly soft feel. I think way better than American Apparel or Article 1. Cost less than both of them also.

The guy told me it is 'Enzyme and garment washed'. Not exactly sure what that means, but it feels great. Tags tore out easily (I did a screened label). They washed up nice.

Anyone have any experience with these??
Thanks for the tip man! Greatly appreciated...all of you in this thread actually. Very helpful stuff for someone like myself. This place is so freakin cool!

Yeah if someone can fill us in on the fit it would be great. Is the feel comparable to AA and A1? I have A1 samples which are nice and soft. Ideally I would like their smallest size to be even smaller or have a xs size so if anyone can provide a comparison between the 2 it would be much appreciated

Cheers,
Matt

They have both a regular fit and a slim fit shirt.

I don't think the "regular" fit shirt is extremely baggy, to me, sizing is a very relative thing. "runs small" on someone could be "fits just right" to someone else or even "baggy" to a few folks

My suggestion is to give Pacific a call and order a few samples to see the sizing for yourself.

I think they also have a size chart on the site, so you could compare that to other brands.

I haven't ordered a sample yet but I'm going to do it. Of course these are all ring spun tees and their still competitively priced with the Gildan products. I also noticed the products are tubular designs and not side seamed.
