Default Custom T-Shirt Manufacturer/Tailor?

I am looking to make a t-shirt out of a fabric not commonly used in the t-shirt world, to my knowledge. The fabric is unbleached, rough muslin. Muslin is a natural cotton that is typically cheaper than regular cotton and is "unfinished." I haven't been able to find any blanks that meet my needs. My question is two fold:

1) Does anyone know where I can get wholesale muslin shirts?

2) If not, what is the next step? I was planning to hire a seamstress/tailor to make a few sample shirts, afterwhich I would find some garment manufacturer to do a run for me. Is this the right way to go? The advantage of doing everything custom is I can have a unique cut. Can anyone recommend someone that does this?

Thanks,

David

Hi,

I don't know where to find what you're looking for but I am wondering if you've worked with Muslin before. If I remember correctly (it's been a long time since college & the drama department), I thought that it shrinks when washed. Do you know the care instructions you'll need to include?

Just some things to consider.

I read a little about Muslin on the Wikipedia site and saw that it's a very good breathable fabric and best for use in warm climates.

Here are some sites I found using Google that offers Muslin fabric.

Wide Fabrics

Drapery Linings or The Natural Textile Company

http://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/ca...y=Types&Page=1

TEXTILES IN STOCK

Unbleached Natural Muslin 45" wide x 25 yds $44.95 ($1.79 yard)

It looks a bit like linen to me but not quite as rough.

AdriaticBlue,

thanks for the info. I visited some of the same sites you posted beforehand. Thanks for the help and support.

reddaisy,

I haven't worked with muslin before, but was aware it can shrink after washing. I will have to do some tests before I figure out how much, but thanks for the heads up.

I'm looking to make a shirt similar to the one pictured below. Upon doing a little asking around and some searching in a fabric store, I've discovered that the material these shirts are made from is muslin. So here I am. =) Anyone else have any advice? I appreciate it.

David,

You might check out this blog: Fashion-Incubator

There is a lot of good information there about the process of having custom garments made.
