Alright...one of us is going to have to go to Honduras & find the sweatshop that makes them...
I know! Boy, did they do a great job on them. I know he has had them at least 5 years, and they are still in good shape. He just wants more because he only has 2 left that aren't stained in some way....just plain white for him. Do you think there is any hope for us? At least I feel a little more hopeful knowing there are others out there helping search.

Just yesterday I spent 3-4 hours store to store trying to find a new source of heavyweight Ts to replace my last Pluma shirt without stains; no luck... all are cheezy, thin, who knows what kind of material (as all of you already know).
Anyhow in response to Fogarty, I will start taking donations for a trip to Honduras as the t-shirt forum rep in search of the sweatshop that accidentally made an all-cotton t-shirt. I have my handy spanish phrase book handy!
I'm glad to know that their are others who appreciate quality T-Shirts like the Pluma..I love the thickness and the feel. There's nothing like wearing a good clean thick T-Shirt with a pair of faded jeans. Now...my Pluma's state they were made in Mexico..so they must have contracted to a few third world countries. I've been on the lookout for more Plumas every since the last time I bought them in Orlando, Florida and will continue to monitor this Forum for any news...
this past weekend Oct 13-14, 2007 I was in Sears (Chicago area) and, as always, passed by workshirts/t-shirts.
They have a selection of t-shirts in the Work Clothes department that are somewhat heavier weight cotton than the standard cheezy shirts I see, but are not as heavy as the Pluma. The cost at my store was 12.99.
The same weight shirt was available in long sleeve with a crew-neck 3-4 button front.
I almost bought one to try out, but did not.
I'm waiting for all of you to fatten the kitty for my 'buyers' trip to Honduras.
I Spoke to the buyer of Mens Apparel at Sam's Club today. Pluma has gone bankrupt bankrupt. He told me that his long term solution, will be to have another manufacturer start making a similar heavy cotton T-shirt for delivery in 2008. It appears that Pluma made some bad business decisions in aquiring 2 distributors which caused them to over extend themselves, and also, in effect, they appear to also have been competing with their customers as a result. It appears that is what caused their downfall.
Lets hope that the buyer at Sam's gets it right. He is aware of the many calls that have come in from customers looking for the Pluma T's, and I made him very aware that the heavy duty quality, was far superior to any other T's available out there currently.
WOW! I looked on google.com and got mixed messages about Pluma and where to find them. Then I saw this website. We are in search of these t-shirts that we got from Sam's Club about 5 years ago. I can't believe that others are desperately looking for them too!!
Like everyone has mentioned, it is the weight of the material, and the cut of the shirt that makes it soooo great to wear. Ours are to the point that they are freying around the collar, but we are too stubborn to get rid of them. Like I said, my husband has them in all colors - 8, I think, and I have a few and I have a sweatshirt that I love, and will not give up, and it is freying around the collar and wrist area.
I have never been fussy about clothing, but I am an avid Pluma t-shirt junkie I suppose!!! Please keep this thread active. I would love to know what others find out about this brand, and if something close is satisfyingly available.
OH, I have tried the Russell brand, it seems to have too much fluff - or polyester or something. Didn't like it.
I am new here and have been on the search for Pluma t-shirts and there sweatshirts. My husband has had his for about 6-7 years now and they are still in rather good conditon outside of the stains. I have been looking for these for about a year with no luck. I came across this today and have learned that pluma went bankrupt. How could they go bankrupt with such a great piece of clothing. Anyhow, please keep this open. If they dont make them anymore than maybe someone can recommend something that would be very close in fabric weight and sizes. Thanks in advance.
I too am looking for Pluma heavy t's that I bought at sams 10 years ago.
I keep visiting sams lookin for t's but no luck. I have been to all the other big box stores and chain retailers too to no avail....oooooh whooooa is me.
my understanding is that the usual "heavy t's" found in retail box stores are up to about 5 oz. at the most.
and .....while we are talking about some of the best products ever made and no longer available and only purchased through sam's club.
I am guessing you guys also bought the "basic Systems" sleep pants and shorts.
Well....I have been looking for years for those also since there is nothing anywhere made like those ....the best loungeware ever made. I bought like 6 shorts and 6 pants back then and they too are now thread bare except for one pair that I hid from myself. anybody know about these.?

UPDATE: Pk...I ordered a half dozen of the GILDAN, they arrived today quickly from Georgia. Craftmanship is nice and the sizes and fit are nice. Colors or good too and the price was certainly good....averaged about $4 each shipped.
Although a little heavier than all the samples I looked at on my big box tour....they are not close to the Pluma T's. The heavier 6.2oz weight is noticebly thicker but no where near the Pluma unless a wash tightens the fabric.
I am now wondering if the maxweights at 8oz would be as thick as Pluma...I dont think so. ...I am guessing the Plumas where like 10+oz.
The search continues......................................
I bought several Pluma's at Sam's Club years ago, actually wearing one right now. They are THE BEST t-shirts I have ever owned. Frayed around the edges, stained, slowly falling apart. *sniff* I think they were about $5 a shirt 7-8 years, could not beat the price for the quality. If they were available, I would print my shirts on Pluma in a heartbeat.
Would be great if Sam's could find an identical replacement for these.
I bought similar shirts about 5 years ago. These are "Discus" brand, made in Mexico. I believe they were purchased at Boscov's. The WPL number is 7232, the same as for Pluma shirts mentioned earlier in this thread.
Anyway, these are easily my favorite t-shirts. They have a nice cut and have held their shape after innumerable washings. The collars in particular have held up well. Discus doesn't exist anymore, seems to have been bought by Russell. Even if it did, I doubt the shirts would be available as it sounds like they were manufactured by Pluma.
I'd love to find similar shirts so hopefully someone will post with updates on the search...
This will be great news for anyone who's been looking for the Pluma Brand T-Shirts because of their unbeatable quality.
I called the buyer at Wal-Mart several months ago, after I found out that Pluma went Bankrupt, and explained at that time that it would be great if Wal-Mart could find another supplier of T-shirts of equal quality. He said he'd look into it, and get back to me at some point if he had any good news for me.
He called me yesterday to let me know that Wal-Mart had worked out a deal with a Major Manufacturer who he couldn't name at this time, to begin manufacturing T's of equal quality to those made by Pluma, and he said I should begin looking for them at Wal-Mart around the middle of February.
He also said that they would be available in colors later if they sold well, and that it was possible they would be made in long sleeve versions and perhaps high quality fleece sweat shirts and pants as well.
