I'm not sure how signs are usually priced so I was just wondering what everyone would charge for this sign.
24" x 48" on black coroplast. Using Oracal and customer said that the 651 would be fine. Customer designed the sign themselves. Only words, no graphics. 1st line is 6" letters, 8 characters. 2nd line is 3" letters, 20 characters and third line is 2" letters, 26 characters. Basic font. Customer wants UV protection, so I'll use frog juice. No stakes needed.
Firstly if its not a printed item just cut vinyl, then frog juice is not that important.
Secondly asking anyone to price it for you will give you a hundred different variations.
If I were you I would calculate the cost of my materials, then double it up ,plus add my hourly rate.
This is my opinion, however others will certainly have a different answer.
If the customer provided artwork, and it's not vector, I'd charge a half hour setup for this. If you don't have an hourly rate you work off of, then about $25 to set it up. I try to work off of square footage on pricing. Depending on your market you can price it anywhere from $5 sq.ft. to $10 sq.ft. In my market, which is a rural, relatively poor area, I'd price it at $40. This is for 1 color. If they want the lettering in multiple colors add a couple of dollars per sq.ft.
So $25 art setup, $40 1 color sign = $65 total. If the art was where you can just import and cut, $40. I hope this helps.
Note: This is for a single sided sign.

Reason: Forgot to specify single sided
$10.00 a sq/ft.= $80.00 -includes all the artwork tweaking, setup, delivery etc etc. Small, seemingly simple signs sometimes turn out to be just as much work as larger ones. The aggravation factor is expensive.

Interesting formula if you want to lose your shirt. Now that's on coro what if it's on diBond, MDO or Omegaboard? Still at the same per lb price? Now add 2-3 hours of design time for a complicated sign still at $10 a lb with ALL ART included?? Now the delivery location is 40 miles from your shop yet you collect the same as if the drop is next door?

Oh goodness no..just on this Coroplast sign was what I was referring to.
Lot of factors to consider as to materials, artwork, labor, installation etc. It just depends on what's involved and what the traffic will bear. and..your right...it's easy to lose your tail on signs if your not careful
Thanks so much to all for the info. I quoted the customer $80 for the job. I'm thinking that maybe I went high, but I don't want to short myself either.

I'm not sure yet. He was having a frame of some sort built for it and wanted the sign behind glass. I explained to him that coroplast was more for temp. signs, but that's what he wanted.
He wanted the frame built before he ordered the sign.
