I have a customer who wants a 6" x 12"
2 color/layer decal using high performance vinyl. What would you charge? I was thinking around $18.00 does that seem to high? low? Thanks for your inputs!
our shop minimum is $25 for intermediate vinyl. No matter if its one off or constant customer. I can look tomorrow at the shop pricing for the same size and premium vinyl.
This is a sample for there school 2-colors using high performance vinyl. They will be taking orders and he would like a deal depending on how many they order. I was thinking since I saw you price. $ 25.00 for the first 12 and after that $20.00. Do you have some type of book that says what to charge according to size and what kind of vinyl? If so are you willing to share the name of it so I can bye one. You can pm me if you would like.
sorry there is no book.
The vinyl is priced per square inch or foot. and usually marked up 2 - 3 times the cost of the vinyl. You single 6x12 premium piece is priced at $23.25 +tax. But remember the minimum is 25 so you would charge the $25 right off the bat. If they ordered 50 then the price is $288.12. You can do the math there but it gets cheaper per piece the more you do.

How did you do YOUR math...?
One costs $25 and 50 costs $288.12? That's quite a price break!

the shop minimum is $25. So even if your 1 little decal only cost $2.50, you would still charge $25. They are not actually $25 each. It benefits the customer at this point to make more of them to at least equal the $25 minimum that they will pay anyway.
Also, the more you do, the lower the price per piece. So the 288.12 / 50 = 5.76 each. But if you buy 1 the the price is 23.25 which is under the minimum so you have to charge the minimum of $25.

Easy... right?
Yes, that is easy to understand that the prices go down per piece with bulk orders, but I was just confused about how you came up with a seemingly random number like $288.12 resulting in $5.76 each. Why not go with $10 each, when the initial quote was $23.25 for just a single one. Did the $5.76 come from a pricing calculator or something? Just curious.

oh okay... yes. In a way its from a calculator. We have software that the owner will enter the cost of the products and such. I am not certain of the formula it uses but i am sure he tells it how much to mark down the product based on the quantity.
I agree with you on just charging some sort of flat price so there is almost no math. But the software does it all and its his shop and his pricing.
Can you share what program he uses to figure out the cost. I'd like to invest in a program but not sure as to which one. There are so many out there. I do mostly vehicle decals and signage.

Where are you located?
You are right, there are many out there. This one is called Cyrious SMS and here is the home page.. Home
To my knowledge it is going to be pretty pricey but from what I can tell it is worth it. If i had the money I would buy it for my self and my little side biz.
Sign Craft puts out a yearly pricing guide. It's available to buy but they give it out free with yearly subscriptions. There is a piece of software called Estimate I'll have to check when I get back to the shop.
