Every now and then you have that scrap of vinyl that is large enough to do something with but too small for the cutter. What do you do with it? Well on another forum they suggested a Cricut Mat. The mat has a sticky feel too it and you place the scrap vinyl on it and run it through your cutter. The mat can be reused several times, they sell them at Wal-Mart for $7.99 and two mats come in the package. I was able to do 23 hats with the left over vinyl that I had.
Some of you may already no about this but thought I would pass it along anyway.
I use "magic mask" by stahls. It's a clear carrier with sticky adhesive, I think they run at about $28 per 5 yard roll, width is 18", so it is about $5.60 a yard. I use this a lot with poly twill, I'll just buy the twill in bulk and use this carrier. What I like about this carrier is that you can apply your film directly using it, since it is clear, it even help on registration for multiple color application. Yes you can apply your film directly using the carrier. How long does it last? If you would use this to cut and apply names and number vinyl at the back of the shirt, it is good to I would say 12 to 15, but if you would only use it as a carrier to cut vinyl, It should last longer, numbers and names maybe in 50's or even more specially if you keep the carrier clean by returning the cover sheet after use to keep it free from dust.
I try using as much space as possible when cutting vinyl.
But still get a few pieces here and there, so i end up tossing them. Good info though, im going to have to try that.
I try too as well but it always does not work out that way and I wind up with small scraps. I was doing an order of royal blue for a sorority and had left over blue scraps so I used the cricut mat to cut out the letters small enough to place on the front of hats and sold them to the group as well. I won't toss anymore scraps that's for sure.
