Default Anyone have info RE: GOLD & SILVER Oracal 651?

Hi, I use to buy sheets of Gold & Silver vinyl from Tap Plastics, but I have know idea what brand they were, backside was blank. Plus I wasn't too concerned about stuff like that at the time, until I found this forum .

Now I only use Oracal 651 (because it's recommended and affordable). I had once read that Metallic vinyl does not last as long as other vinyl, so I stopped using it. But now I know it all depends on the brand and quality. I'm wonder if anyone has used Oracal 651 Gold & Silver, and what your thoughts are or experience has been like?

Based on brief info that I've read, it sounds like both Gold & Silver should last as long as the non-metallic 651 colors.

I see Oracal has a 851M series, but almost $50.00 a roll vs. almost $20 for 651 is a better deal for my empty wallet.

I don't really want to use a different brand, but if any Oracal users have had successful Gold & Silver experiences with other brands, feel free to let me know.

Thanks!

I use oracal on a daily basis and have had great success with it! ALL types! I have a company that can only use gold in one of the neighborhoods they sell houses out of andthey have lasted a long while! I am almost positive that i used the oracal 651 gold! I would say just use it without any worries!

I've used both as well for indoor applications, it's works great. However, for outdoor applications, the gold turned almost black within a year on a van window. just my .02.

I haven't used the "metallic" yet bit I didn't think the 651 line had any metallics. I know there is gold and silver but I thought they were just colors. Unless you may be refering to ultra small metal flake type metallic. The mirror type metallics are under their specialty films series 383, 351, and 352. I see reading the color chart that the metal flake type is called metalic so sorry for trying to correct you when you are right to start with but the mirror type metallics are very interesting so I won't delete this post. Good luck.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yeah, I have a color sample booklet from Oracal which is where I found the 651 silver and gold. The 851M series has the gold I would love to buy: Pyrite, but the roll is too expensive and I probably won't use gold often.

For metallic needs, if you have the extra money, 851M seems like a good choice: "Oracal 851 - Premium Cast Metallic
Ultra high gloss Our very best film, Up to 6 years outdoor durable
."

Anyway, I went ahead and ordered both 651 gold and silver. Even the Oracal chart info says that their lifespan is a year or two less than non-metallic. The gold is a simple gold, not shiny like gold leaf. Its almost like an older tarnished gold and it seems a little transparent.

Used it to cut only one sticker so far, weeds easily. If I notice any issues or dislikes I'll be sure to update. Thanks!

Yea I love that violet and green in the 851 netallic. I just can't quite get used to calling them metallics instead of metal flake
