Default Good Printer/Cutter for Window Decals

HI! My name is Sean. I am new to this forum. Just want to say this is very nice looking forum with alot of good info.

I am in the security system industry and I would like to start making my own company window decals..(only 2 colors white and blue). I would like them to be double sided so they can be placed on either side inside or the outside of the widnows. I was wondering what type of equipment would I neeed? (printer, cutter, type of vinyl).

THANK YOU!

I have no idea if this type of thing can be done on a desktop printer. But we do these type of stickers on a gerber thermal printer, and cut with a plotter. Many many thousands of dollars in equipment.

They can also be done on a versa camm.....also many thousands of $$.

Are you looking to get into the sign business or are you just looking to make some stickers?

If you are just looking to make some stickers, I would contact your local sign maker and get some pricing.

If you are looking to get into business for yourself, I would contact some local sign shops and ask about distributors etc.

Most any cutter and oracal vinyl should work for you, but you'd be way ahead just to have them made unless you were going to do over $500 or $600 worth and continue to need them regularly.

Do you know graphic programs? You will also need a graphic program, to design and one to cut, they have to be compadable with each other to send to the cutter in eps. form.
That is the file type to get the cutter to recognize the design.

Thanks for the help, appreciate it.
I wouldn't mind investing some money in the equipment. My brother is pretty good with computers so i dont think the software would be a problem. I would consider getting in the sign business.

I am just wondering what would be the up front cost for the equipment and if it would be profitable to make my own decals and maybe potentially turn it in to a business.
THANKS!

How much would decent equipment cost?
Based on some research the vinyl and ink should be pretty cheap in my case. If i was to buy White vinyl and just use blue ink since the stickers are only blue and white.

well let see ....

New 30" print/cut Roland is about 11thous or used around 6 to 7 thous

software 600 to 2000 illustrator or flexi sign pro

Computer 600 to 1500

you get full set of inks with machine

vinyl masking tape misc crap 150 to start

cost for 651 and ink per sq ft around 50 cents

hope this helps and if you went with thermal like Gerber

4000 used and 10000 new

software 2000 omega

print cost and vinyl $1.10 I think

one way or another you will need to invest atleast $6 thous

It may be more feasible to sub contract to a wholesale print company

Outsource Services - Signs101.com

start calling for prices my friend Lol

Not gonna try to sell you anything but I can maybe do wholesaling to on cut vinyl
PM me for a price and size and compare to that link with those vendors

Best of luck but I honestly recommend to sub out for a bit and see how you sell and than invest in machine

Sean,
Just want to make sure we are straight about something,,
Are you plan on buying equipment that will print on vinyl, or do some screening and vinyl work..
You can print on vinyl , but that is a whole different story, for pricing..
Clarify for us, and we can help better,,
Thanks

I think if he is just doing one color over another that screen printing is way to go

i believe in this case the best solution is to buy a cutter plotter and use white and blue vinyl..
screen printing involves a learning curve, so cutting vinyl would be easier and cheaper, if you don't need very large quantities.
a decent entry level vinyl cutter costs under 300 dollars (i suggest us cutters), and sign vinyl is pretty cheap, too.
