So I have been searching the forum for information on how to make custom car decals. Not finding anything that I understand!!! So in the simplest terms, what kinds of materials do I need? What kind of work needs to be done? What kind of vinyl do you need? How do you apply them to the car window? Do you have to do something different if there is a part, like an eye that does not touch the main part of the graphic?
I have seen decals that people buy where they just rub them onto their car windows, these are the kind I want to do.
Chance, Here's a link to Arlon's application guide. It's pretty detailed. I'd recommend that you always use High Performance (aka Cast) vinyl on vehicles.
1. A vinyl cutter 24" will do.
2. Some oracal 651 vinyl or other vinyl, but oracal is best
3.some weeding tools, tweezers, exacto knife, etc..
4. Application tape
5.Vector software, Adobe illustrator, Corel Draw, or Inkscape, either one
6. Customers to sell them to.
I am already a screen printer and have illustrator on my computer.
Do I need some sort of other software to have the cutter cut the vinyl.
What are weeding tools and what do they do?
Is anyone still watching this post. What would I use to make full color car decals. I have an 871, but would like a low cost color cutter to make decals in color, mainly as magnets. Any suggestions?
I have a GX-24 awsome machine and you can do mulicolor decals...but if you are looking for a full color digital with the capability to do gradients and what not I would reccomend a versacamm...pretty pricey but you will be able to also do digital full color heat transfers..THis is something that I am saving up for..I do alot of soccer team jerseys and would like to be able just to print a 3" patch and press it on..
BUt yeah if you are going to be doing alot of stickers get the
Roland GX-24 camm-1 will include cut software weeding tool. It has a plug in for illustrator.
I have not used oracle yet. I am currently using AVERY vinyl. Also some application paper.
I have the Off white and the clear. Both work great. I like the Clear so I can see where I am placing the decal but the white is better for applying decals wet...both are pretty inexpensive.
