Default Help cutting image

I have an image i have imported to signblazer, when i go to cut it I get a message saying it is a bitmap and will not cut. we have tried both gif and jpeg, And still the same message. I am also concerned that the image has many loops and circles. Will all the holes be cut out of the image?

I don't actually know about Signblazer software but most cutting files are .cdr (coreldraw) .ai (Illustrator) or .eps (Illustrator) these file type are vector files, as jpeg and gif are raster.

EPS did not work I still get the same bitmap message. I tried to save it in Corel Draw as a CDR but the program I am using does not list a CDR as one of the files when i try to import. Any other ideas?

You need to convert the raster image (jpeg, bitmap) to a vector image by either using autotrace or manually tracing it then save it as a .eps file.

Hi Pat,

I understand what you are trying to do now. You can't take a bmp or jpeg and import it to another file format. You'll have to have Illustrator or Corel and either trace the artwork or redraw the artwork then save as .ai .eps then import it into your sign software.

Inkscape which is free also has trace I think.

I still cant get it. I read and re-read the help file in corel draw and followed them to do the trace, but when i save it and bring it up in my cutter program all there is, is a black square. Anyone offer any other suggestions?

the picture is just a solid color, (black) right? As long as it is a black and white jpeg, or bmp, or psd, or whatever, it will work, so make sure it is. then go to image>mode>monochrome then a box will come up, click ok, then go to image>vectorise and click ok when the next box comes up. now you will have 2 images. one on top of the other. One is the vectorised image (should be in blue) and the other is the monochromed image(gray). You can now delete the gray one, and with the blue one, right click on it, select size, make it whatever size you want it, and there ya go! when you click "cutter" it will tell you that only the vectorised image will be cut (if you dont delete the monochromed image) and now you're good to go!

I use SignBlazer as well. One little trick that I have learned is once I get my design imported and vectored or whatever I am doing to it....I click "Cutter" and get the message you described...here's the trick...if you press ok and go ahead into the cutter preview screen it will show exactly what the cutter is going to cut. Sometimes it ends up being the entire image and sometimes there are some parts of the image that aren't cut. You don't have to cut it, just click "Finish" and it brings you back to your workspace.
