hey im new to vinyl cutting, my question is how fare do i have to have the blade of the cutter seems no matter what i do it cuts the paper behind it and it gets me . i have a uscutter- copam 2500
That should be a setting on your cutter, mine has a +F and -F for force. The blade length is more likely to be the problem. You only need more force when cutting materials like foil or flock whick are thicker and harder to cut.

whew, welcome to my only issue with the uscutter! lol... It took me a few to master, and I am more than willing to let you know EXACTLY how to do this. First, you have the attachment the blade goes into that goes into the hole with the thumbscrew on the actual cutter, right? Undo the thumbscrew and take that out. twist the blade holder piece til the blade is just barely sticking out. Now drag squarely across the vinyl, in a circle, square, some sort of closed shape. Get your tweezers, remove your shape, and also check the paper underneath the vinyl. If the shape doesnt "weed" out. your blade isnt out far enough. Adjust and try again. If the paper is scored, (if you're able to feel your design raised on the backing paper) your blade is sticking out too far. twist it in a bit. try again. Eventually you will be able to cut your design without cutting the paper. There ya go, all set! now reinstall the blade, take it offline, and if it is anything like mine, pushing "Pause" will cause it to test cut. advance the vinyl, atempt to weed out the rectangle. If it weeds, you're golden, if not, increase your "force" (like star wars, lol) by pressing "Mode" (For instance, I have mine set to 150. I saw it recommended at that on a tutorial for setting up the blade...)
whew, hope that helps!!! I have had no issues with my beautiful USCutter Since )
so the force of it should be set around 150 for normal use? and for more thinker vinlys us more force?
I can only speak for what I use. I switch back and forth from shirt vinyl (Thermoflex) to vinyl vinyl lol (arlon/calon 5000 series) And I have had no problems. Havent changed my force at all.
Every machine seems to be different.
With my P-cut, I normally have the force set to "100" for regular vinyl. I have to bump it up to "105" for Thermoflex heat transfer vinyl.
The trick is remembering to adjust it when changing stock. If not, you'll either cut through the backing paper on the regular vinyl or not deep enough on the heat transfer stock.

This is why you are supposed to do a test cut before starting each cutting job. I always test cut to check for cutting and weeding issues. You need to check all settings twice and cut once. This will help to curb mistkes and keep your profits up. ..... JB
