| Can 2,500 buy a decent (temporary) vinyl printer? Anyone have any suggestions? I was pretty excited to see someone was selling a Roland Colorcamm 12" (PC-12) near my home city until i read about everyones issues with colorcamms... I messaged the guy and he said it isnt set up, that he only ran a small amount of vinyl (10 feet or so) before buying a larger vinyl printer.
So I am looking for a temporary solution for a vinyl printer until I can afford the big bucks to buy something. So, does anyone have any suggestions? I am amazed with how helpful everyone has already been on this site. Thanks a ton for any advice in advance )

| Re: Can 2,500 buy a decent (temporary) vinyl printer? We bought a Roland 600 off ebay for about that amount. If you keep checking (daily) you can usually find a good deal on one. We went with the Roland because it was cheap and seemed easy to operate - we basically wanted it for the smaller jobs as we send out all big jobs.
So far (after about 3 weeks) we love it! We have printed several smaller decals on vinyl. We just ordered a set of the ribbons to do t-shirts - so we'll see how that goes. It is a bit slow at printing and does seem a bit costly on the ribbons, BUT - as I said, for smaller jobs or the occasional decal order that walks in off the street, it's great!
We watched ebay for about 2 months before finally finding one that we felt was a good deal. We were able to call and talk with the seller - who still had the original box - and we felt pretty confident about the transaction.
The only major problem we have had is the lack of drivers for windows xp - it will cut from xp, but not print, so we have had to run it off an older laptop we had.
Good Luck in your search!
P.S. you may also check ebay for the roland pc 50 (i think that's the right #) - I remember seeing one a while back for about $1000

JT | | | | | | Im running a PC60 and for what I do, its the best investment Ive made. You can make a good amount of money running a thermal printer and have no issues. I use Avery A4, its inexpensive and for the short term stickers I do, you cant beat it. Now the 60 is a PATA when it comes to cost to per inch. These are expensive machines to run, BUT if you learn to use spot colors where you can, it will help. My only regret in getting the 60 was the lack of the Ribbon Saver. That really helps and you will pay for that if you find a 600 for sale. Now the down side is, ZeroNine is no longer going to sell or carry Roland ribbons after what they have is gone. But Roland still does anf theirs are only a buck more so... For me, I wouldnt go for the 12. Too limiting in the stickers you can output. My 60 is a 24" machine and I can feed it 2" material if thats what I need to do. It may not be the fastest cutter but thats what my Graphtech is for.
Learn how to use spot colors, shop around for vinyl and adhesive backed poly for the cheapest prices. And as much as many people diss Ebay, if you know what you need, you can get some banging deals. | |
