This has to be the only forum that you don't get laughed at and labeled an "amature" for buying one of those eBay cutters. I bought a 25" cutter from US Cutter and have had very good results.

Starting out small and working my way up. Making t-shirts with my JP12 9x12 heat press using Thermoflex-plus (this stuff is soooo easy to work with). Making some small coroplast signs, banners, and decals using Oracal 641.

One thing I'm learning is give your friends stuff for free (t-shirts, decals, etc). Make some "self-promoting" shirts and wear them whenever possible and pimp yourself out. You'll get people asking "where did you get the cool shirt?"

I agree...
For about $400, I have a 24" cutter that does everything my brother's $1800 Graphtec does.
For low-volume/part time graphic work it does just fine.

The only glitch I had with mine was using the USB port instead of the serial port (because my laptop didn't have a serial port). The software would get "lost" when trying to cut if I took the plotter offline to change vinyl and reset home position. I got a USB to serial port adapter from USBgear for like $25 and now use the serial port. Problem solved... works perfectly now...

I was able to buy my US Cutter plotter, a 9x12 swing away heat press, a 6 CD (DVD?) set of vector clip art, an OEM version of the CorelDraw 12 graphic suite, and some supplies (vinyl, coroplast, t-shirts, etc) for the price of the Graphtec plotter...

I practiced making samples of stuff to help promote my new business....

I can contour cut with my Refine and Flexi the same as a roland or graphtec does. Well maybe not quite as quick, it takes me about 10-15 seconds to set up. I found that out AFTER I bought a laserpoint

That's the only thing I wish I could do....
I'm trying to find a "work around" way of doing it...

Thanks everyone for the words or encouragement. I only have a 9 x 12 swing away to start with and I already have a cap press. I already do some screen printing and am trying to branch out seeing that screen printing can be slow in a small town.
