If you're looking for some specialty films for really snazzy lettering and such, I usually go through Sign Supply & T-Shirt Supply for Vinyl Cutters & Inkjet Printers - Beacon Graphics, LLC I think they're updating their website tonight or tomorrow or something, which is good cause their old website was kinda mazelike! I've gotten some of their holographic vinyl, imitation gold leaf, glitter film, and some other things at a decent price!
I was just going to place an order for a bunch of supplies but the shipping came to half the amount of my supplies. $30 in shipping seems high for a $70 order. I like all the stuff there, I just have a problem with the freight. I may have to find a local place for the supplies.
We have tried the 631 a few times in the past and had some issues with it adhering to walls that already had 651 on them. I can't definitly blame the 631, but after recutting the items with 651 everything was fine. The quantum 2000 is a matte and sticks well as well. Most of our customers are doing interior installs, but about 25% do window and vehicle installs. The 631 looked worn out within a year of the install on a few vehicles. Using 651 allows me to offer a higher quality vinyl and inventory one type that works well for both interior and exterior work. The cost difference is almost negligable considering how cheap vinyl is. Its the labor that is costly. Avery has a few nice colors that oracal doesn't offer. I need to get a supplier for a nice sage color.
I have a vehicle out back i just finished.. Ill have to go snap a pic.. lol.. I am really not fond of doing cars/vans /trucks most of the time.. i would rather just make a sign in my shop lol..
its why i charge them high to install.. .. It dont take that long for me most of the time.. but It gets hot working on them.. on sunny days and im a whimp
I did a large trailer install for a local lacrosse team and I can honestly say I hate doing installs. I have a lot of respect for vehicle wrappers. I usually bid my install high enough so that people buy the vinyl from me and do thier own installs.
lol cruiser.. im not really fond of doing them either..
vehicles like vans and cars can be really hard to get or find a straight line on.. The thing that takes the longest is the plotting out where everything is gonna go and drawin the lines..
with the funny body lines on vehicles even tho the graphic mite be straight it can look crooked because of some funny line on a van or car.
I use a stabilo pencil and mark the car all us.. stand back and look.. sometimes use masking tape and tape the unapplied vinyl on the car.. and stand back..
Its a pain lol..
trailers are at least easier in the fact that they have straight lines.. but then again they have rivets lol..
Very nice Sue
How long did it take to do that job?
How long did it take to learn all that stuff? My head is so full of stuff I don't think I can learn anymore
that was our first wrap.. It was alot of vinyl as the box on the truck was 18 feet long lol.. (and yeah it had rivets everywhere).. we had the guys from the school district bring us by a scaffold to use.. (it pays to have great customers lol..)
It took about 6-7 hours to wrap the truck.. i dont remmber how long it took to print it.. lol.
It is all a blur.. We did this about a year ago.. or so.
Hi everyone. This is a total newbie question, but the Oracal 651 vinyl already has adhesive on the back, right? I'm getting a GX-24 and want to cut some window stickers. Thanks everyone!
The 651 is some nice vinyl. I got my cutter delivered the week before last right before I went up North on vacation. I did some vinyl for my business on each window of my Tahoe and then a bunch of sports decals for the back, and then some more on the back of the trailer of the boat I was pulling. I got a little carried away. I should have left some room to see out of the windows.
I want to put my web site url across the top of the front window right where the tint part is but I've been thinking. Most people put it so oncoming cars can read it. Has anyone done it so that when someone looks at you in the rearview mirrow they can read it. Like the ambulance sign on an ambulance. Just a thought.
to Me with vehicle graphics.. its definatly a case of less is more..
You have to remember that the car is seen most while driving.. and most people only have a couple seconds to see what the car is advertising.
Tell him that would be cool. I'm cutting black cow spots for my golf cart. I have a moo horn for it. I plan to put some bull horns for the front. .... JB
