Make sure you clean the surface good windows use Bonami and use registration marks and cut the registration mark out of the last layer you are going to put down. When cutting it out cut as close as possible to the registration mark cutting through the backing paper so you can line it up with the marks stuck on with the first layer.

Use plain alcohol and clear app. tape for overlays. The vinyl should be Oracal 651 or 751 and plenty of wate. Take your time and go slow, you will be just fine.

Dave if the window has had Rain-X on it alcohol will not remove it and the vinyl will not adhere good!
I have seen this happen more than once with alcohol being used as the cleaner.

99.9% of the time alcohol works just fine. I know about rainx and what they rec. for its removal. Bon ami or any other scrubbing cleanser in a soapy solution. I think in general terms it is the exception. I dont want folks scrubbing auto paint for vinyl application with clorox or bon ami. I know we are talking glass but you know somebody is going to go that direction and freak out.

I understand what you are saying, I just wanted to make it clear that Rain-x is a known problem. for cleaning painted surfaces of vehicle I recommend using propsol or something similar to what body shops use to clean when touching up. Some of the newer waxes/polishes can also be aprpoplem to get off to gain proper adhesion.

so did I waste my money then on the 4200 series from Specialty or can I still use this. I plan on using for personal use till I get the hang of this. Finally got my second color in today and will probably get to it tomorrow.

You can use that vinyl to learn with no problem. You can cut window stickers with it just fine. It wont last forever but it doesnt have to either.
It is thicker at 2.8 mil so it wont conform as well as a high end vinyl.
I sometimes use a house brand from my supplier in a pinch but Oracal and 3M are my favorites.
