I think I put this in the wrong place the first time and will delete my other thread (it looks like I can anyway)
hello, I am finally going to get a vinyl cutter but need help with with the choices I make.
I want to do t shirts but also wanted to do wall graphics. Not sure if I need 48 inch but would be nice if too costly would go 24. I don't want to spend a ton but also don't want to buy something I will regret.
Also I use a Mac so software needs to run on a Mac. I was looking at US Cutters as others had recommended them here but it looks like they don't support Mac.
I want to be able to take images I have and convert them so I could use them with the cutter. They are in EPS and high quality jpg format. I think I would need software to convert them to vector, correct? If so, what do I need.
Here is a sample image I am not sure it attached, I think I did it wrong). If it did not, it is just a black image on white, kind of like a stencil.
I'm pretty sure signcut x2 is mac compatable you can get that with a US Cutter. If your files are .eps then chances are they are already vector, unless you did them in photoshop then they will have to be vectorized. Going off your image you posted that could be vectorized in about 10 seconds, so if they are as clean as that one I'd say you will be fine vectorizing them. I have a US Cutter refine 721 (24 inch) and I don't regret it one bit.
I just saved your image, imported it into Roland CutStudio and used the image outline function. It found all the edges and created a cuttable file. Mirror it and send it to the cutter, it's done. Less than a minute, start to finish.
Not sure if it works with a Mac or not, check with Josh at Imprintables... So far, I'm very happy with my Roland GX-24.
No the refine does not contour cut. For contour cutting I would go with the roland or graphtec from what I have read. US Cutter is now selling the graphtec so you could check with them for compatablity.
mrtoad, go to their forums at Welcome to the Frontpage and ask around. I seen one person over there rebjr I believe that said once you learn how to do it with signcut x2 it is simple. I personally cannot atest to that, but that's what he posted.
