I'm currently making one-color bumper and window stickers with a Roland GX-24 cutter, and I'd like to add printing to that process so I can make multiple color stickers. I know that I have to use an external printer for that, but does anyone know what kind of ink and/or printer is required to print onto vinyl for that type of use?
go with the Epson 7880 Great printer BUT if you are using it outdoors you need to Laminate the print If you wanna go big Roland Versa Camm still need to lam.
Thanks for the info. I'm doing very low quantity right now on the stickers, so purchasing a large format printer doesn't make financial sense at the moment unless I have to - but would it be possible to use an Epson Stylus 1280 desktop printer to print the images onto small sheets and feed them into the GX-24? Is the ink different from the 7880? If I have to laminate it anyway does the ink type make a difference?
Thanks again for the tips - so if I understand correctly, I can print with the inkjet 1280 on sticker paper, then laminate it, then cut it with the GX-24?
What sort of paper is needed for the stickers? They'll presumably be going on cars and other outdoor locations so they'd have to be somewhat durable.
Thanks! Through those links I found Papilio paper, which they claim is waterproof vinyl sticker paper, especially when laminated, and can be used with inkjet printers:
Another thing that just came to mind is to use the cutter to make stencils for my less detailed screens. Unless there's alot of intricate details that only emulsion will print, the stencil is a much faster, cheaper and less messy way of making screens. I'll give it a try.
