I have had my roland gx-24 for a bit now for short runs for my t-shirts and other garments. Someone needs a window decal and I offered to do it for them. They know lots of people who would order some if they knew someone who did it. THis person I know, so I told them to give me some time to get some material.
I have been using google but I can't find anyone. They were concerned with being able to see through the back. I have heard about the one way films. Has anyone used it? I contacted one company that told me that it only came in white and it was for printing on. I only want it in white so it wouldn't be a big deal...but how does it look? Can you see through it or is it the same as a regular decal? Where would you get it from? THis company hasn't returned any of my emails, when I call I am told to wait for a response...it has been over 2 weeks! They then told me they would email me the wholesale application-never happened.
I also wanted to look into the etched glass effect look for the window decal. I planned on using it on my vehicle to try to attract attention. I don't see it in my area. I found some sites but it had no pictures to view... so I wasn't sure if I was looking at the right one.
I am getting frustrated. Is anyone doing well with window decals? Are you doing random designs or only custom orders? Does anyone have it set up on their website? Any suggestions are appreciated.
we have a sign shop and do alot of windows too..
You would not want to use the perferated vinyl (what you were calling one way films).
It wouldnt look good dye cut.. It is not meant to be cut that way.. and really would be a bad choice..
I have used the etch glass vinyl and its lovely.. You can really get some nice effects with it.. Its not the most readable at times.. and really prefer not to do much words with it..
but have in a few cases.
as for the customer who was wanting you to do the vinyl that they could see thru..
If you do the words right.. they dont see thru it.. but it really does not obstruct the few as yo u see around the letters (hope that makes sence)
Gerber makes a vinyl that is made to see through, normally used for auto glass. You can print on it or use it plain, comes in white only as far as I know. It's called Gerber Vision, anyone who carried Gerber products should have it, I use Advantage Sign Supply.
Susan,
You suggest that I stay away from perferated vinyl altogether? Is it ever alright to use?
Thank you all for responding. I plan to check out these companies to possibly get something to get started. Are you all doing random designs or custom work?
Perf vinyl is for printed media.....you print on it the over lam it to protect it...thats what its desgined for and the only time you should use it is in that capacity.

Seeing the design would help. It may be a cut vinyl design in which case Oracal 751 is a great vinyl. If its a print only design then you may want to look into outsourcing the project and charging accordingly.
