I have a car dealership wanting some simple vinyl decals with just their dealer name and city. Size is approx. 1.5" x 5". They are wanting a price on 500 decals (250 white & 250 black). The graphic is very is easy to weed, so not much time there!
What is the going rate for something like this using a high quality cast vinyl?
Set yoursel up with a per inch rate to do all your work. You can break it down by the volume you get. You also have to consider the job as weeding is timely on some jobs. I do truck door signs for one company when the get a new driver. I charge a flat rate for them as all I have to do is change the name and numbers. I have the template set up. The area is 10 x 15 inches and I do 2 and get $35.00
I also do a set of numner 3 x 8 and get $10.00. The good part is I don't have to put them on.

If it was me I'd print the name and city on clear vinyl. Minimal weeding and you could probably get away without using transfer tape thus saving you time and money. It would also make application easier also.
If you don't have the capability to print you might want to think about subing it out.
Cad cut vinyl for new cars. Printed stickers on metallic, chrome and reflective for used car and note lots. I dont see clear printed decals much in auto dealership identity decals.
With a nice tight contour cut around the lettering you are not going to be able to tell the difference between CAD cut and clear printed when your going going 60 mph down the road. Though at that size you're going to have a hard time seeing anyway.
The idea of pulling the centers out of lettering that small seems like a major waste of time if they can be printed instead.
But in the end you give the customer what they want and charge them accordingly.

I understand your point. I'm just pointing out the industry standard for the type of dealership decal query in the initial post.
I dont like using the clear vinyl for this type of application.. .. To me it just doesnt look as nice and clean.. even with the cutting time and weeding if the customer is willing to pay for them.. they will give the cleanest nicest look.. (and yes i have a printer and do have clear vinyl in stock). THe poster has already done a sample cut and weed and says they are not time consuming.
Since reading this post I've been looking at the back end of vehicles (been a slow day ) and probably 90% of the ones around here have the dealer name on a license plate frame.
Funny thing i used to live in West Virginia and thats the one thing i noticed there is the logos on the cars their. here in ca, you dont see that over here i may have seen a car or so butother than that nothing like that here. i think if i was buying a car and it had that on it i would tell them to take it of or give me a dicount for advertising, i guess my attitude toward that shows whay there not around here much
My wife told me that her grandfather always made the dealer take their sticker off...unless they would paid for the advertising, which never happened of course.
I feel the same way especially with clothing....damned if I'm gonna pay good money for a shirt that has the company or designer's name on it. Guess I'm just not cool and with it!
