Default Help Oracal 751 issue

Please help!! I ordered a roll of Oracal 751 yellow and 751 black for a job. I cut all the decals, almost 10 yards worth. The yellow is supposed to be layered over the black, but when I do the yellow is acting almost like a transparent as it's turning the yellow almost gold. Am I doing something wrong? I've never had this happen before and I have layered brimstone yellow over black before with no issues as all. Did I maybe get a bad roll?

751 is pretty thin, did you use other vinyl in the past to do this? You could try layering the yellow twice, cut out another layer of yellow and mask it again.

I've layered the 651 brimestone yellow over black with no problems. I guess I figured that I wouldn't have a problem with the cast.

651 is a bit thicker than 751, I think 651 is 2.5 mil and 7 is around 2 mil thick.

I agree, 651 is thicker and will show more solid than the 751.

Oh, crap lol, but thanks. I honestly didn't think that the .5 mm would make that big of a difference.

I called signwarehouse and they didn't hesitate to send me out a new roll so I figured that it was a bad batch. They barely asked ny questions, just said ok and they shipped it out.

I snapped some pictures quick, but it's more of a color difference in person. I'll have to keep in mind the thickness difference for in the future.

How am I suppose to layer a light color over a dark using cast without having the lighter color affected?

Thanks to all!!

What is your reason for layering? If you have a design with multiple colors, try cutting out the areas that overlap so only the top color exists in that space. That way you won't have any bleed through from vinyl sitting underneath vinyl.

Aaron,

Thanks for you your advice, but I already thought of that. I took the vinyl up to the job and the red paint from the truck shows through the yellow. I'm think I might have to cut a white under layer and then cut the black outline and then the yellow. Seems like that's harder than it should be. If I were using 651 it would have been a simple cut, layer, done job.

Here's some of what's going on the trucks.

Yeah, doing a white "underbase" as a duplicate of the yellow letters might work. You could even do a 1-2px understroke on the white layer so it doesn't poke out of the edges if you want to get fancy.

That's a good idea and I'd love to do that with the 1 or 2 point stroke with the white and make it easy on myself, but they want it to match existing work that was done. I'm thinking the previous job was done in calendared because there's no black showing through the yellow on the old trucks.

Strike all that I mis-read your post, yes the UNDERSTOKE lol is a good idea. Thanks so much!!!
